(09-25-2018 12:11 PM)ThreeifbyLightning Wrote:  That describes the current state of Middle Tennessee football. The declining attendance has already been well documented. Recruiting classes have been slipping year after year. I could probably have just hopped on the 2017 injury thread, but in addition to the Rick Stockstill era sucking the life out of the community's interest in the program our current situation looks like this...

Out Saturday...
Starting DE Render
Starting S Moffet
Starting S Blankenship
Starting RB Thomas (may be done for year)
#2 Running Back Mobley
Starting WR Windham (Actualy the WR situation is in such disarray 3-star freshman QB signee Luke Shiflett is now #2 on depth chart at the "Y")
Reserve DB Johnson

And these are just the ones I know about. Only three games into the season.

It's so bad in the Boro that the homer board has a collective average score prediction for the FAU game as:

FAU 40
MT 24

USM has some serious issues also. Here is the crowd for the Rice game. Announced was 20,000. 15,000 tops.

You are thinking of duel threat QB Chris Smith. Recruiting class of 2007. Smith never lived up to the hype and was beat out by Mark Cann, Wesley Berdain and Brian Anderson. Smith was only at Marshall for the Spring of 2007, he didn't even come in the fall and try and win the job or move up the depth chart. He transferred to Tennessee Tech but never showed up on their roster.

Chris Smith 247 Recruiting Profile (South Point OH)

Marshall has had a ton of QB talent that never lived up to what they were suppose to be. Both Larry Harris and Mark Zban left the program when they got hurt and Pennington took over. Then there was Adam Black, not his fault though he was injured. Also Mark Cann and Wesley Berdain was never what they should have been. Zach Barnard out of Owensboro KY was a KY state player of the year who never could catch up with the college defenses. Then there was Clemson transfer Willie Korn who couldn't throw an accurate ball over 10 yards after he hurt his shoulder.

Im sure there are a few Im missing.

Mark Cann could NOT... Brian Anderson was probably the best QB at MU during the time between Leftwich and Cato.

I was thinking Stan Hill then Bernie Morris.

Anderson was decent but the best QB to come through Marshall between Leftwich and Cato was Stan Hill. Had he not tore his ACL in Knoxville I honestly think he would have been NFL bound. After Hill I would put Bernard Morris next and then Brian Anderson.

MT was my major bet in the stock challenge. Before the season I expected them to give FAU a game. It looks like that was premature, but you never know. CUSA is crazy this year. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria.

LMAO. The fact that you dug this up. Really enjoy that I can get in your dome this much.

But let’s review a couple of things.

Declining attendance: check
Declining recruiting: check
CRS sucking life out of program: check
Injuries: check (especially at the beginning of the season when I posted this)

I mean we got skull drug by Vandy. Freaking Vandy!

So nothing I said was falsified or over dramatized as you would like to insinuate. Had FAU not given us a gift we would be 5-4 which is about where ole Rick likes to live. You know right around .500.

But we still have an SEC team left, what looks like the best team in the conference, and we’ve lost at UTEP before. So let’s see how the last three go. Don’t be surprised if Rick regresses to the mean. 7-5 looks likely. And 6-6 is 100% plausible. But yeah even that must look great to someone sitting in the bottom 10. LMAO.

Pardon me, as a UAB alumnus and Blazer fan, I cringe when fans use the term "death spiral" so cavalierly.

There is a difference between a spiral and having your throat slit. UAB = the latter IMO.

I believe 2019 MT is going to look a lot like 2018 wkcc.

Thank god you didn’t use the highly overused accusation that you’re living rent free in my brain. You opted for dome.

I prefer to think of it as me remembering another instance of you squealing in typical dramatic fashion about how ‘woe is me’ it is to be a Middle fan. You do it every year. If Stock Sr pulls out his once every 5 years good team you disappear. If he doesn’t and pulls his normal mediocre you say “see...told you”.

Every team in football has injuries but when Middle has some it lays the groundwork for you to explain away any future loss. Unfortunately, Middle kept winning.

As mediocre as Stockstill is and he is the definition of mediocre he cannot be compared to the abysmal, abject failure Junior Sanford has been. Taking a 2 time champion that dominated and dismantled them in less than 2 years. Nobody can point to a single positive he has done. I know people that know him and they tell me he’s a wonderful young man, father, church-goer. But so is my son. Only my son isn’t getting paid 800k to bury a football program.

I called you out as a sandbagger on your first post on this and just wanted to remind you that you did in fact come out as a sandbagger.

Now I’ll quietly exit and let you and PiKapp continue your family feud of who’s the smartest person on the internet. That slap-fight was the shittt!!!!

RE: Death Spiral at MT
Stock has one great season in 13. Get back to me dahbeed when we actually win a conference title. 1992 was the last time. Would you be happy going on 26 years without one?

We were certifiably awful at the beginning of the year. But this conference is so bad it makes us look better than we actually are. Nothing I said in OP can be refuted. You haven't refuted it yet just doubled down on your poorly flawed message about sandbagging.

If we win more than four games next year you can call me out. I will eat all the crow you want. The OP was about the general direction of the program. Regardless of what happens this season the program is on the decline. Money, facilities, recruiting, etc. The future is bleak. So, I damn sure hope we do luck out and get the title this year. Because it will be a while before we see the chance again.

RE: Death Spiral at MT
There is an end in sight for the awful coaching at Western, while there is no escaping perpetual mediocrity at Middle.
You guys may get the next coach right, hell maybe Bobby Petrino falls back into your lap, either way Western is far more likely to bounce back to the top sooner than Stock puts together another isolated great season.

TIBL and I may squabble from time to time, but he's spot on here.
