You're going to be disappointed (barring going 0-fer the rest of the way).

I am as outsider as it gets but from afar it seems to me this program has been quite good (all things considered) since joining FBS. I watched casually when Heinecke was your QB as I played him in fantasy a lot. Always entertaining and competitive.

Then the 10-3 year which to me was very impressive for what is still a fledgling program at this level.

I guess I've always held Wilder in high regard, was it a common thought before today that he should be replaced?

It was pretty common, but not universal.

If he gets to a bowl game this year, what a crazy turnaround that would be.

And I will cash a nice futures ticket that I was tempted to throw in the trash after week 3!

In my opinion, it has never been a common thought, just a very vocal and small minority opinion.

RE: Extend Bobby Wilder Thread
I'm still struggling to make sense of what happened. A week ago I was worried about another 2013 UNC debacle and calling for firing wilder and the coordinators. I will gladly eat my words and give everyone all the credit they deserve because they gave us the best win in our history and because it was against VT. That made it so much more special.

That aside what I am struggling with is: Were the first games really on the coaches or was it just not executing? Both? Where do we go from here? So much uncertainty. I will say they wont get fired mid season and BW has earned the right to keep this ship going. He has proved that even in the worst of times good things can happen so I will stick by him from now on. Glad that he didn't try and gimmicks and hopefully he is done with that. I think Nagy is still on the warm/hot seat but I didn't expect him to shut down the VT offense. Aside from a few busted plays the D played pretty well in most regards.

Okay I will give this a shot although my brain is pretty tired after a Monday night game. He didn't use the trick plays b/c we were in it or winning straight up, they simply were not needed. The "D is still disappointing to me with holes everywhere (VT = 600 yds) but like the old FCS days they did show up at just the right moment, many times Saturday. That represented progress but still a long way to go for the "D" to even rise to the level of good. As to the top of your comment I would say sometimes you are the bug and sometimes you are the windshield. You have 22 (plus specialist and kick folks) players and it is not like chess. Each piece does not do the exact same thing the exact same way every single move. Add the other teams 22+ doing their thing with multiple variables and it becomes frightening to think about. As a coach you can only do so much and only control so much, for the rest study up on chaos theory. ODU played badly in the 1st 3 games and I am told and believe our coaches were as flumixed as the fans. Saturday night our team played well and it all came together. About 160 plays Saturday with 22 thinking (or not thinking) adults on the field for each play (22 x 160 =) which makes 3,520 possibilities for good or bad player actions all across the field. Just Wow! I would add as others have said that we had some advantages in matchups with VT and that went very well for us. So I would guess Wilder & Co. will stick with BL and the hurry up, try to tweek the "D" a little and on to ECU hoping again to be the windshield and not the bug.

Im not buying the argument that there are so many possible outcomes all over the field so the coaches couldnt possibly control what is going on.

This is my take. They thought they had something in SW. He is a good player and great teammate but has been rushed in his development. But up to this point the QB play has not been good and this was why we were 0-3. BL is small but accurate. Had BL been playing all of last year and all of this year I thing we would have more wins. But either way with BL moving forward he gives us the best chance to win right now and maybe in the future SW gives us the best chance.

Just stick with BL even if something goes bad. Give him the chance to learn before getting yanked. Also I am still not happy with Nagy as the D coordinator. He is the weakest link right now in the coaching staff.

A win at ECU changes the season. A loss and at least we still beat VT.

Last year BL never got time to get in a groove at QB he was splitting time with Hoy the whole time we was the starter. Against Virginia Tech it was the most he was able to play in a game without being rotated in and out. I hope we're done rotating quarterbacks moving forward this season.

Just for the record, Liberty got thunderclapped at home 47-7 by north Texas so before we go handing out extensions, let’s see how we do at ECU first.......

Im still not sold on BW for the long term in FBS yet, but this VT win definitely gets me thinking he will be here next season. I thought that would be the case before but wasn't sure it was the right choice. Now, even if we go 2-11 this season, I think he certainly gets another season at ODU.

I would just like to reserve the right to wait until after the season to have an educated opinion? He is now responsible for one of ODU's greatest SPORTS victories despite only being a 10 year program with a school that has a rich sports history... while also in the same season getting blown out by Liberty. What a roller coaster.

We are Liberty's only win. They also lost to Army, but Army took #5 Oklahoma into OT.. so who tf knows. It's why we play and not hand out wins and losses before kickoff.

It’s also why people shouldn’t overreact to one freaking win and start calling for an extension when the rest of the season has been pure dog poo.

You can’t overreact to one game when handing out contracts that can affect the program for years. Let’s see what happens at ecu and then I’m CUSA play and not make a rash, emotional decision.

Of course wood is our AD so maybe hell will hand out that lifetime contract many of our more irrational, absurd fans wanted to hand to Blaine after one NCAA tourney win in 10 years lol.

That would have worked out really well ha.

Interesting how one win, granted the biggest win in School Football History, took Coach Bobby Wilder from "Scapegoat" to The "G.O.A.T." You gotta love that narrative. Hopefully it's just start of a great national run (games won, Media and Recruiting) !!!

lol Yeah, After listening to several sports talk shows since our victory, it seems Liberty gets no respect as a football program.

I can't remember the exact quotes but it went something like this,

"I mean this is a team that lost to Liberty"

"How can a team that loses to Liberty turn around and beat a top 25 opponent?"

"Among ODU's losses is a 52-10 defeat at the hands of Liberty. Unbelievable."

"how can ODU lose to Liberty by 42 points then beat 13th ranked Va. Tech? You can't make this up"

Yeah, we lost which is embarrassing but I thought this was funny.

Anyway ODU fans, here's the face of ODU Football for years to come, Get behind him and the program or GTFO.

"Liberty" almost got said as much as "Old Dominion" over the weekend. So they got some exposure as well? That $1.3M might have been a good investment after all

BW fell from I think 34 to 64. By my quick count 6 CUSA coaches have hotter seats.

It's not like they would have excluded moral clauses. So it would have likely worked out the same exact way it did.

Bobby was always going to get at least next season to turn it around. His buyout after this season was around $1.2 million. After next season I believe it is about half of that amount. ODU doesn't have an extra $1.2 laying around.
