Nothing says Holiday Bowl season more than the Gasparilla Bowl against a SunBelt team. Let's just knock off UConn, Tulane, Temple, SMU, Navy, USF, ECU and UCF and make plans for the Peach Bowl vs. LSU, Auburn or Florida!!

That would be the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl to you, sir.

We have gone from simply hoping for a bowl eligible season to complaining about which bowl. Gotta love what winning does. Can’t wait now for Saturday.

I have a bottle of wine that I purchased in Charlotte, NC during the 2012 Belk Bowl. I didn't get a chance to drink it while in Charlotte, so I decided I would have a bit of fun and wait until our next bowl victory to open it.

It has now been almost 6 years since that game, and we all know how rough each postseason has turned out in that time. Here's to hoping that this is the year! 04-cheers

I trust Fickell will understand the value of a UC bowl win.

Unless it is a good red you might consider drinking it soon.

Hopefully it's the Wild Cherry. That **** ages so much better than other Boone's varieties.

RE: Ridiculously early Bowl Projections
I am curious what everyone's criteria is for where YOU hope UC goes bowling. (I am assuming we won't get the NY 6 bowl.)

Would you prioritize:
* Potential driveability - to go to the game in person.
* Date on the calendar - week before or after Christmas
* Revenue for UC - some games pay the teams substantially more
* Opponent - from P5 or G5 conference
* Beach / sun and vacation potential of the location
* TV coverage - both for us as viewers and national visibility

Or something else - what trips your trigger? and in what combination and priority?

* Potential driveability - Most of the bowls earmarked for the AAC are driveable from Cincy, minus Dallas & Ft Worth. Although since both Delta and American service direct flights to DFW from CVG, it's usually fairly cheap (competition).
* Date on the calendar - eh... if I'm traveling, it doesn't matter much. Either way I am taking vacation time. The only thing here that matters to me is perception (earlier in bowl season is perceived as a lesser bowl)
* Revenue for UC - Every conference does this differently, but most share the revenue in some way, with the participating team getting larger share. In the end, I'm not sure it matters all that much as long as they are in one of the bowl games.
* Opponent - Always nice to play a name brand.
* Beach / sun - secondary to the trip...but i personally enjoy the adventure of finding something new to do wherever I happen to vacation
* TV coverage - If I am traveling to the game to watch it live, I don't care if it is on TV or not

Not sure I am answering your question. I would prefer Florida to Boise - and an opponent that i've heard of before. Otherwise, going bowling is nice.

Good post. From a purely selfish perspective, I do like being able to drive for the game so Charlotte, Memphis, Birmingham and Detroit have made for easy, inexpensive bowl trips. I'll toss Annapolis in that mix too, although with Southwest Airlines now providing non-stops to Baltimore, that's another option.

After that, the date is critical for holiday travel. Finally, I'd really prefer UC playing a P5. In any given year, Troy may be better than Arkansas or Georgia Tech but the brand matters for UC fan interest and the national TV audience. I'm a big believer that until UC reaches the P5, it's important to look and act the part by playing P5 teams both pre and post-conference whenever possible.

RE: Ridiculously early Bowl Projections
None of these interfere with Christmas so we need to turnout to support our rep as traveling well.

American Athletic Conference
2018:
Bowl games will be placed based on best fit for the Conference and its membership.
The Birmingham Bowl versus SEC 12/22
The Gasparilla Bowl versus ACC 12/20 ST PETE
The Frisco Bowl versus MAC 12/19 TX
The Military Bowl versus ACC 12/31 ANNAPOLIS
The Armed Forces Bowl versus Big 12 12/22 FT WORTH
The Boca Raton Bowl versus Conference USA 12/18
The Cure Bowl versus Sun Belt 12/15 ORLANDO

Conditional Secondary-Agreements

The Liberty Bowl The American fills unused slot if SEC or Big 12 does not fill its slot 12/31 MEMPHIS

The Independence Bowl Conference USA or the American fills unused slot if ACC or SEC does not fill its slot (both have backup agreements). 12/27 SHREVEPORT

My preference would be Liberty (been there) or Military (been there) or Birmingham (been there). I do not want to go to a TX Bowl.

I don't think much thought or care goes into these for any G5 programs but I certainly don't care much for this week's picks for UC.

UC doesn't have to win out to garner a "better" bowl than these. We have a quality brand and we sell plenty of tickets. This is why the conference no longer stacks the bowl bids arbitrarily based upon where teams finish in the standings. Cincy will buy tickets and fill hotel rooms. Many in this conference won't do either.

Hopefully our coach will think a bowl win is important for our program.

The Military Bowl against Georgia Tech would be an interesting match-up on a number of levels; UC and GaTech are remarkably similar universities. Matching up against another triple-option offense (that would be our third of the year after Tulane and Navy) would be a challenge but we would have done it twice already.

We're not getting a redux with Ohio. Bowls try to avoid that for good reason.

The "Miami Beach" bowl doesn't even exist any more. It's now in Frisco, Texas, and I can't see UC getting assigned to that bowl for any number of reasons. We'll be "east" somewhere.

I understand and it highlights that most of us in an hour could do a more accurate prediction than most of these bozos.

RE: Ridiculously early Bowl Projections
Okay - question for the recruiting gurus.

the early NLI period is Dec 19 - 21 (2018)

Bowls with AAC ties include:
Dec 15 - Cure
Dec 18 - Boca Raton
Dec 19 - Frisco
Dec 20 - Gasparilla (CBS current projection for UC)
Dec 22 - Birmingham
Dec 22 - Armed Forces

finally
Dec 31 - Military
plus any NY6

So my question - if our most likely bowls are the ones in or near the NLI day, what effect does that have on recruiting and or signing? Did anyone follow how that affected the relevant teams last year?

RE: Ridiculously early Bowl Projections
Jerry Palm has UC in the Gasparilla Bowl against Florida Atlantic in his latest projections. Just participating in a bowl game is an accomplishment, but that one doesn't excite me much. He has Temple in the Military Bowl. Think Temple would even bring 1,000 fans to Annapolis?

I say UC still gets a P5 opponent in Annapolis or Birmingham, based upon our fans' travel reputation and the higher visibility UC has enjoyed being ranked this season.

Does anyone know when the bids will be issued this year? I seem to recall UC officials knowing on the day of the final regular season game and announcing it at that time.
