Hes full of ****. Our coaches knew what formations put them in man and VT never adjusted out of it. Duhart/Fulgham couldnt be covered (and BL put it on the money).
He isn't full of ****. Yes our coaches scouted Tech and knew what formations put them in man-to-man situations, but to suggest that Tech didn't change anything defensively throughout the entire game in an attempt to stop the passing game is simply incorrect. At one point they even resorted to dropping back 8 men in coverage and only rushing 3.
Their biggest problem was a combination of them having smaller corners than our 6'-3" receivers (Duhart and Fulgham) as well as them being a Freshman and Sophomore where our two main receivers are much more experienced and physically mature Seniors. Many times the coverage was there, but they just got out muscled, out sized on the catch. Just like it is in basketball, a good big player will usually beat a good smaller player head to head.
They played man on almost every down. Every big play in the 4th Quarter was man coverage. They were cocky enough to believe he could play man with their corners against our WRs and they got torched. They still played safeties 6-8 yards off the LOS and in manvs our TEs (lol).
We are not a good running team. We still only had like 50 yards through 3 quarters and 22 was a scramble by BL. But they still focused on stopping the run even though their front 7 could easily stop it.
It was a hard headed move by Foster. Early in the third I yelled out “they cant cover our Wrs, they have no chance.” And damn if they didnt change a thing and Duhart /Fulgham torched them.
I was shocked they stayed in man/cover 0/1 all game. Defies logic, but I guess their pride wouldn’t concede that our WRs are better than their young DBs. Every time BL threw the deep corner, you could just sense we were going to come down with the ball.

Congratulations on the big win. My wife (ODU grad) and I had a good time following that score from Harrisonburg.

My biggest head-scratching thought is: How the heck did ODU lose three straight games before out-classing VA Tech? I had not seen any of the ODU loses, but did see Tech’s victory over Florida State. After the Tech-FSU game, I actually thought Tech might run the tables. And I also had thoughts of Tech really embarrassing ODU. But, of course, it was Tech that got embarrassed. And now, i’m Wondering if Tech will win another game this season. Suddenly Tech’s schedule looks dauntingly difficult.

Wearing my ODU swag this week.
As mentioned above I have only watched the games on social media, but I have seen them all. The biggest difference it seemed to me was hitting the receivers with the ball. I know the Liberty game was a blow out but I still believe we would have been in that game late if we hit some wide open plays in that first half. Let's face it, our QB play has been awful in the first 3 games. I think Williams is a great kid but he is too erratic for my liking.
Wilder mentioned it. He said it is so much easier to throw in man bc corners have back to the ball. He knew VT would not change gamplan and they knew what formations to get in.
Williams missed a ton of throws in week 1 and slowly improved. But BL puts passes on the money and attacked downfield like we’ve never seen him do. All bc it they stayed in man.
We saw glimpses.
In the last series of the 1st half vs LU BL went 4/4 and averaged 10 yards per reception.
LU posters said they were very worried, but then SW came back in the 2nd half and were relieved.
Vs FIU, BL went 8/15 and averaged 9.5 yds per reception.
While one series in the LU game was not a significant sample, it was very apparent in the FIU game that BL is was the better game manager and did not get rattled.
Curiously, the above was very apparent in the Spring as well.

Post Game Thread: ODU defeats #13 Va Tech 49-35
I am not convinced our running game is bad. VT wanted to take away the run game by stacking the box and leaving outside WR in one on one situations. They dared ODU to pass. When they adjusted in the 2nd half is when Cox finally had space. ODU did a great job in passing whenever tech showed a heavy run defense.
Something else I'm not seeing being talked about... how about our o- line??? LaRussa had plenty of time for the plays to develop

Tech looked very much like a regular football team. Only difference is when their plays broke wide open they clearly had the fastest players on the field.

Vs Liberty, it was a dumpoff to Cox that he ran for a bunch of yards. There was a little more downfield vs FIu (the Cox one handed miracle catch) but most was to RBs/TEs. Last year it was mostly dumpoffs.
Yesterday, he threw downfield on the money all game long.

We didnt run well until the last drive. I think that was over half of our rushing yards. But, what was odd was that VT is not a big team like we usually see and they wanted no part of trying to tackle Cox in the 4th.

The size difference between Cox and the VT DBs was really surprising.

September 22nd -- seems to be a pretty good date for ODU football. Saturday, September 22, 2012 wasn't too shabby either!

Hmm may be he let his emotions get in his way like me. He looked good and may be we should offer him and bring back home the 757 talent. After all its only fair Kids come to ODU which is better than VT.

I talked about that with my dad last night. He had just enough time to go through reads and when he didn't was able to move out the pocket just long enough to direct receivers open. Was very reminiscent of the TH days.
Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

Talked to a Hokie friend, Hill was on his third or fourth chance. Yesterday during the game he was trying to start stuff with younger players on the sideline and at one point tried to take his jersey off like he was going to quit midgame.
