I go into the world's happiest thread and feel like s**t after reading it.

The average poster's expectation on here is a New Years Day Bowl Win and an NCAA Championship. No one here is ever happy. That's why it's kind of funny when I saw this on Twitter yesterday.

I don't necessarily think that's true.

Some us on here (me... in particular) try to point out the positives of our programs and that our coaches are not total idiots. Yes, those on here who are like the two old guys from the balcony on the muppet show always show up to tell us how stupid we are, but so what.

If you were a UC fan watching us take brutal beatings at the hands of the Bowling Green's of the world in a crumbling Nippert and then went to watch a 3-28 basketball team in the musty old Cincinnati gardens with the humiliation of playing on Xavier's court... you're quite happy with the state of UC athletics at the moment.

True dat Def Berkkat!

When I was a frosh at Daniels Hall (1986/87) you could access Nippert's field just about anytime and take a dump on it and no one cared. Seriously, we would play some pickup football games or throw frisbees/aerobie discs or catch some rays, etc. I doubt students can do that now.

RE: Bearcat Fans- America's Happiest
That's actually a pretty cool article.
I'm not surprised. After last season, I'm impressed by how far the defense has come. My upbeat feeling will become one of pure jubilation if, our quarterback can step into his role as even an average passer. The lines on both side of the ball are big, the one on defense is downright dominant(good to have coach stripling back), and though our pass protection could be better it's not what I'd consider to be bad. This team is an easy one to like.

He's down to #13 now after the 2-0 start.

I think it's hilarious that he's even on the board there...just shows how little they looking into situations outside of the P5.

Yep, in those dark days we often feared the University would take the ill advised position of the faculty senate and just shut down football. Having endured that period, we appreciate what's happened in 2008/2009 all the more.

If this analysis is to be believed it seems to me it's a case of what is being delivered by this team and coaching staff, far exceeding what was expected after two games. Imagine if someone told us last year after one of those eight losses that UC would go to the Rose Bowl and whip UCLA on ESPN during primetime to open the 2018 campaign? Plenty of reasons for us to be happy @ 2 and 0.

What would make me happier? As someone suggested in another thread, how about an 8 and 0 start? I know the old cliche about taking them one at a time and I'll still be pretty thrilled with a winning, bowl season. But from the AAC, UC has been supplanted in the national conversation by the emergence of the Florida twins, Houston, Memphis and Navy. So staying undefeated and getting ranked would serve notice that Cincinnati is back in a big way. And only going to get better.

Honestly, I'm still in game-to-game, week-to-week mode but sure enjoying the ride. With each win you just feel the confidence growing of the team and staff. Feel like if we beat Ohio to go to 4-0, then that really sets the tone for the next 4 in conference play and that 8-0 scenario looks real good.

I just walked down onto the turf at Nippert one weekday last year. There were frisbee people and some wiffleballers there also.

Anywho, I'm a happy camper right now. Big D_ck Fick is doing exactly what I thought he'd do with our football program - just a tad ahead of schedule. He's helped me to put the Ghost of Cadaver's Past in the rear view mirror. To me, as a glass half full kinda' guy, the football program is still rising with a strong trajectory over the next several years. Basketball? Can't really think about it right now but having a renovated arena has to help build some excitement this year even with the horrific loss to Nevada.

I swore off this board after the Nevada game and then found myself starting the game thread for the Canadian scrimmages a few months later. Just when I think I'm out...

I always love that reference. Probably the only good scene in GFIII.

If BDF keeps having top AAC recruiting classes we will be back to the top.

Bowling Green - that was a decent opponent back in the day. How about the loss to Indiana State? Lol

But unlike you - still very blah about UC athletics. All mid-major stuff now. Yes, even hoops. Feel like we are in a blend of CUSA football and MVC basketball.

Someone posted he would be happy to play Troy in the Cure Bowl - no f-ing way. Sad how mediocrity is now a positive.

I don't need to play Alabama for the National Championship, or make consecutive Final Fours to be happy. Just want a legit seat at the table.

I sat through every rain soaked play last week, and will watch every play from Reed Shank Saturday night. And will vigorously cheer for Ridder, Warren, Bryant and their teammates. But let's not kid ourselves - UC is hopeful that they make a baby bowl against a MAC school (goody our 3rd MAC team) or a Sun Belt dredge like Troy. YAWN

That's surprising to me but good for the students. I assumed [wrongly] that after the $80 million reno job that access would be restricted.

Personally, I stopped closely following UC basketball after that game, until Mick starts producing in March... what can I say? I no longer see the point in investing lots of time and emotion into something that can leave me as devastated as that Nevada game, as well as the annual uninspired loss to our only rival. I'll root for them if the game is on, but I'm not going out of my way to follow practice reports, study stats, pay money for tickets, etc. anymore. I doubt it's hurting UC, considering the outstanding season ticket sales, but it may help me maintain my sanity.

Just because I significantly decreased my personal investment into UC basketball doesn't mean I'm not here cheering for UC football and other UC stuff. 04-cheers

I can't say as I blame you. Your health (mental and physical) ought to be the most important thing.

It's been over half a decade since I was so uptight about UC losses that they kept me up all night. The last one, as Rag always likes to point out - "our biggest loss of all", not going to the ACC with UL. I wasn't even that upset about the B12, because that's a cluster.

Anyway, although Nevada didn't come close to that, it still upset me to the point it took me a couple hours to doze off. I'm staying off that emotional roller-coaster too.

The good news - expectations aren't that high this year. So, I won't be too disappointed at the results, save for a 19-13 halftime deficit to Tulane, or the 15 or so halftime deficit to X last year. Those were the last two UC games I outright walked away from.

Fortunately, I live near the NC/Virginia border far enough away from the major coastal shat that is about to hit the fan. Feel bad for those folks. Typically, hurricanes move on through fairly rapidly after making landfall but this one is projected to stall in the NC/SC region after initially hitting as a CAT 4 or 3. Rain and wind will last several days over a widespread area. Not good...
