UAB Men’s Soccer
It’s been a difficult start to the season. UAB lost both exhibition games, 0-3 at Clemson and 1-2 to Mercer at home.
UAB began the regular season in California, losing to the University of the Pacific 1-2 in OT, and getting a big win at Santa Clara 2-1 in double OT.
UAB hosted the UAB Soccer For A Cure Classic this weekend. UAB is in need of a soccer cure after losing both games. UAB lost to Fairleigh Dickinson 2-1 in double OT Friday night after a long rain delay. UAB lost this afternoon 1-0 to Coastal Carolina.
The team is fairly young.

Yep, the men's team is not heading in the best direction.
The women also have struggled early on.
Are the soccer field upgrades already in place? (I know this has nothing to do right now with their records but was just wondering)

It's probably time for a coaching change. You could dismiss a bad year or two at one point, but this is becoming a trend now. Unlike most of our other sports, you can't blame this one on a crummy conference either.

I agree. I appreciate Getman for all the he has done in his time here, but at a certain point I think the records show that he is no longer maintaining a certain standard. Especially given the timing of rising soccer interesting through the new field, and the new Birmingham Legion. If we could have a new exciting coach and successful team paired with the Legion beginning it would be a great way to capitalize on the media attention and get fan support and more coverage.

Something appears to be amiss with the soccer program, but I only witnessed Sunday’s loss against Coastal Carolina. Getman has been the Men’s soccer coach since 1992. Yep, 1992.
The one win so far was against Santa Clara on the road. However, Santa Clara is also only 1-3, and went 3-13-1 last season. UAB went 5-7-4 overall last season, and only 1-6-1 in C-USA.
I remember when Getman used to coach UAB to the NCAA’s. Those were the days!

RE: UAB Men’s Soccer
What is the going pay scale for such a "young and exciting" coach (compared to that for the present coach)? UAB has hired new coaches in recent time for other nonrevenue sports. Has it been competitive to get that kind of coach?

Both Mackin & Ingram mostly went after up & coming assistant coaches when filling positions.
Mackin seemed to like the SEC based coaches whereas Ingram likes the Big 10 like programs and areas to look for coaches. (I think)
You can get assistants for a lot lower salary than even "young and exciting" coaches.

Mackin was before my time but this definitely seems to be the case with Ingram. That was definitely the case for his softball hire.

UAB has lost two more matches since I last posted. We lost to Kentucky 0-2 last Saturday, and just lost to FIU in Miami, 1-2. UAB led tonight 1-0. It’s only FIU’s second win of the season. UAB falls to 1-5 on the season.

Lost 1-0 in OT to Charlotte. Finished 6-9-3 overall, 2-5-1 in league play. I believe that's 4 losing seasons in a row but at least they made the conference tourney this year.
