Was moving a mistake
Good morning cross town neighbors. With the way the season is starting and looking over the past 3 years, how do y'all still feel about moving up to FBS? Year one, almost made a bowl, year 2 winning a bowl, however September looks kinda down. Seems that many are calling for BW's head. How much time does he get? Who would y'all get to replace the face of the program? Has he fully been able to recuit FBS players? Talent wise, are yall still on the FCS level? How do you feel you would stack up against that purple school in H'burg (I truly hate them right now) or NDSU?

We'd lose to both JMU and NDSU right now. Heck NSU may beat us right now!!! I know ya like that Wilder is 23-29 vs FBS programs.

I don't want to judge the move on one or two seasons (look at ECU). But we really need to step things up. There are plenty of FCS schools that would beat us right now. Forget NDSU or JMU. I'm not sure I would bet on ODU to beat Richmond or W&M.
Bobby has earned some capital, but the seat is getting warm. I say he has another season after this one. But a couple of 2 or 3 win seasons and he will need to move on.

Growing pains but I much prefer FBS Football. Blowing out crappy teams full of future accountants was fun but I like the higher quality of players. Seeing future NFL players at Foreman is fun to see
Our fans have been calling for both coaches to be gone for years. Its a never ending process.

I think we would beat JMU but it would be closer than I would like. We would curb stomp Richmond or W&M.

What about Albany? Would we curb stomp them? We beat them by 14 last year and they went on to win 4 games in the CAA. I don't think you can reasonably say we would curb stomp anyone from CAA right now.
And we would not beat JMU. They hung with NC State.

RE: Was moving a mistake
No. Moving was not a mistake! So quit asking!!! If you're going to compete at a high level you need to coach at a high level. We have plenty of talent we are getting out-coached in every single game! Like some people have said here we get figured out matter of time. Even at the FCS level eventually teams are going to figure you out! Even at the FCS level we got beat by the better teams. Everybody keeps on saying FCS this FCS that. What has ODU actually accomplished at the FCS level? Nothing! it has nothing to do with money either because look at Appalachian State and Georgia Southern we have more money than them and look at how successful they are in football. Everybody seems to love Bobby Wilder regardless of where we play so until we upgrade coaching this is what's going to happen! Coaching is really important look at pretty much any school that got better coaches. The F_U schools for example! ODU hasn't done anything at either FCS or FBS level. But I guess just some people love watching the Battle of cupcakes...

This all falls on coaching. Constantly getting out coached. BW and Nagy will say they need to do a better job of coaching but the thing is they are not capable of doing a better job.
Just fire them now and don’t drag this out.

I agree. In addition, the second biggest issue is recruiting, which is to a large extent determined by the quality of the coaching staff.

Agreed on the transitive property thing, but I think that you are overestimating how good we are. We're a dreadful team right now. We can't hang with Liberty, how do we beat JMU, who is much better.

I dont think we are great at all. I do think Liberty is much better than JMU after watching both teams.

ODU rolled the dice with CUSA and sacked up or made a financially bad decision, take your pick. I would have voted for CUSA if I were an ODU donor. I wanted JMU in CUSA.
None of it matters because both programs are in the same boat, we need a G5 realignment. CUSA is not sustainable for ODU (would not have been for JMU either). JMU spending G5 money on a fcs product, don't now how long that can last?
A tight east coast G5, if teams are up or down, does not matter if the schools love to hate each other or just hate each other is even better.

What do you think the difference would be? We'd save what? 500K - 1 Million in Travel expenses? Maybe a little better fan engagement and attendance? I like playing most CUSA East teams and wouldn't give up playing Marshall, WKU, MT to go back to W&M and JMU. I'd like more regional rivals but the economic impact is oversold, mainly by JMU's admin. Do you need me to break out the financial statements again to show you that staying in FCS and spending the same money is definitely the worse decision financially? Sure you win but it's not exactly a fair fight and JMU is running huge deficits every year. ODU at least balances the budget and has funds for rainy days. And it's certainly raining now.
So no, I have no interest in going back. Yes, JMU and many more FCS would probably beat us but not necessarily on talent but definitely on coaching.

They are both opinions. My opinion is we wouldn't curb stomp anyone from CAA. Trying to take away my opinion by calling it faulty logic... okay. I'm starting to get the impression you are on the university payroll with how far you'll go to ignore how bad our teams are. But that's just my opinion.
