QB Discussion
Maybe Williams is just taking the 'Aim High' a bit too seriously.

I apologize if someone else said this in all the other threads. Don't want to steal anyone's thunder. I got so disgusted in the game I stopped watching in the 3rd quarter and stopped reading.....

But maybe he needs to aim lower....in his throws!

Mod Edit;
While this insult is pretty tame, keep them out of the thread title.

He thinks he is a baseball pitcher and loves the "high hard one".

A thread mocking an 18 year old college athlete seems like a great idea.

I think its more mocking BW's Aim High BS.

SW needs to play better if he wants to continue to start and play in the games. I don't think that's over the top criticism. Whether this thread is too over the top, let the forum police handle that.

Forum police have arrived! Nothing negative, even if truthful, can be said on these forums anymore. Giles says don’t insult, but yet insults other posters if their view differs from his.

I try not to personally insult anyone (besides 1 poster), if do, my apologies. Are you seriously comparing that than mocking an 18 year old college athlete? Do grownups feel good about themselves when they do so. I cant imagine posting personal insults or mocking an 18 year old kid and feeling good about myself.

Lion's Den Poster of the Year
Post: #11
RE: Maybe Williams is just taking the 'Aim High' a bit too seriously
This is really frustrating.
From BW's raindrops on roses show, to posters on this board.

We are in massively huge doo doo if we HAVE to rely on an inexperienced and very young quarterback to win games.
Where the hell is our running game? LU is not Alabama, How could our RBs gain only 86 yards against a heretofore mediocre FCS defense???
Once again we have (all the signs were there last year) an anemic one dimensional rushing offense that looked pretty good only in 2016, due in large part to the skills of Ray Lawry.

C'mon.
The entire success of ODU football should NOT be the responsibility of one 18 yr old young man. He needs time to mature; emotionally, physically, and skillwise.

All things being as they should, Blake LaRussa should be our QB. At this point of a balanced FBS development, while not spectacular, we should have a ball control offense that can run and pass efficiently.
Right now we are back to where we were with TH, without TH. That is no way to construct a solid football program.

Bobby mentioned that SW was our starter in part, because he could run. At this point in our development we shouldn't have to rely on an escape artist to win games.
If he wants him to run, then install a dual threat offense and take advantage of that skill rather than use it for desperation.

I believe in the system concept. Develop a sound fundamental scheme and philosophy and drop players into it. Try your best to recruit players that fit the system.
When you get an exceptional player, Like a Lawry or TH, then you will excel. In the years you don't you are still competitive, if not a league champion. In the long term this will stabilize recruiting and reduce volatility in the fanbase.

The apparent haphazard feast or famine ODU philosophy cannot sustain this program.

[end of rant]

RE: Maybe Williams is just taking the 'Aim High' a bit too seriously
There is no upside in playing Larussa. He's a very limited QB and if he were to start at QB, if (BIG IF) it increased our chances of winning, it would be by the slimmest margins possibly. He is no threat to run which puts a damper on the read option that is a stable of our offense. What we saw last year was teams loaded the box because of Larussas inability to get the ball downfield (Williams has the arm strength too....but does he have the accuracy?) and inability to scramble/avoid sacks.

If Williams plays like he did from WKY to the end of the year (100-151 for 1,025 yards, 6.79 ypa, 200 rushing yards on 65 carries), he is the far better QB. If he plays like he did vs. Liberty, he most certainly is not.

RE: Maybe Williams is just taking the 'Aim High' a bit too seriously
Dual-threat means just that: two threats - air and ground. Unfortunately, SW is not getting it done in the air, so I don't really care how good he is at running, he isn't a dual threat right now. At least he wasn't on Saturday.

BL is a game manager who will not LOSE us the game. Perhaps that's all we need right now. Someone who can hit open WRs.

Besides that, I don't think I will be contributing to this thread even if it turns into a real discussion. Would be nice if it could get renamed. I don't think having a thread title insulting our players is a great idea, personally. But y'all do what you want.

The kid shuts his eyes as he's throwing the ball. When you do this, even in a split second, you have to reacquire the target. When the target is moving quickly it's hard to do.

He's worse than Bentley.

Kinda hard separating these two comments. Don't say anything bad about one guy...that's bad. Yet you take apart everything about the other guy.

Stay consistent San Diego.

Are any of those comments mocking BL or personal insults or just evualating his play?

If that is indeed the case on every throw he makes then he has got to sit for someone else until he gets that taken care of. And I would think the coaches would have noticed that after all of this time. . . .

I didn't delete the comment. I just moved the original title to the comment area and made the thread title more accurate.

And do we really need new threads just for a joke? OPs post could have been easily added to the Liberty or FIU thread. At least now it's a thread worth continuing discussion.
