Yeah uh, remember that UCLA was literally one of the 3 worst rushing defenses all of last year?

You realize UC is the underdog right?

There is gonna be a whole lot of Collar Poppin' Saturday night.

2.5 point dogs in a "road game." That's practically a pickem. Miami was getting close to knocking UC off, missed their last chance for a while last year.

Moore is a senior who probably doesn' t need the reps Ridder needs. Ridder came in a looked great early, even made some really nice throws. As the game went on and UCLA adjusted he really struggled in the passing game. I think preparing him for a more full load (plus going against lesser talent on defense) will help. Despite some comments that I thought we needed a defensive score to win if we stuck with Ridder all second half, I liked more of what I saw from Ridder than disliked. I just felt the offense was not going to sustain a long drive with him at QB late in the second half. It was a big ask of the young man. But the defense stepped up, got a safety then got him the ball back in UCLA territory and we finished. Love to see if a full week as the one can extend that success for longer periods of time for Ridder.

Agree 100% Mark (and comments from Marcus too) and that's my read on Ridder as well - a full week of prep at #1 with Moore ready in spot or backup duty. I believe UCLA had more athletes on DEE than Miami has and perhaps this will help with some of the play calling/passing execution. Again, it's a tremendous advantage to have a running attack to settle the offense down, set up sustained drives and open the passing game more.

Also, remember all of the complaints from last year about how vanilla Denbrock's playcalling was. I remember it being super predictable and that was confirmed when I asked my die-hard Notre Dame friend about it.

Really is; I went out on YouTube earlier and watched the last four minutes of the broadcast again (If things turned out poorly I doubt I would have done that).

Those successful 4th down conversions not only earned the victory, but I'm betting our guys on the field have a whole new respect for Coach Fickell because of his confidence in them during crunch time (our best beats your best). That, as much as the victory, may be the flame that had left this program during the previous regime, being rekindled.

My head still says 6-7 wins. But big turnarounds do happen. I remember that hapless (winless) UCF team at Nippert three years ago that turned it around the very next season and then took it to another level altogether in 2017. We all want wins sooner rather than later; Saturday's results bode well.

We can deal with collar poppin' and the general douchery that surrounds it. As long as they don't let your sororities come down on the field and soil the turf, we should be OK.

There was similar incident by these MU clowns at the Freedom Center a few years ago. They were caught, among other things, urinating on the exhibits.

I'm sure the Freedom Center was pissed.

It's better to be pissed "off" than pissed "on".

Oh wait, it looks like the museum's artifacts were pissed "on" too.

I shouldn't bother going here but what the hell...remember under the previous regime when the coach willingly gave up in the second half of games? I still have the confrontation in my mind when Kiel came off the field in a game (can't remember the opponent) and got into a heated discussion with the coach for failure to go for it on 4th down when field position was around the 50 yard line and down several scores. I think you're right about Coach BDF building trust and confidence with his players and rounding a corner...

Last year UCLA brought in eight (4) and (5) star recruits.. The year before, they brought in (12) four and five star players.. UCLA is not a weak team..

They have a ton of talent, but they are not a good team. I suspect they will become a good team, but they may be a year or two away.

Unlike previous regimes Fickell, maybe like Dantonio are truly building a program where other coaches seemed to just strap a band-aid on until Tubbs finally ripped it off... I just hope I am right.

RE: My-AM-Uh, O Pregame Talk
Phil Steele picked UCLA last in the Pac-12 South FWIW, not to mention their suspensions. But to summarize a Hawk Talk poster regarding the bizarre spread:

On a broad level, teams that lose close games are usually just unlucky and turn things around the next game, meaning that computer projections put a higher value on them. Betting models are probably favoring Miami since they assume our close loss to a decent Marshall team and close game record over the past few years (5-18 in one-possession games under Chuck Martin) is a string of flukes, though those who know his coaching know that he falls apart like a wet paper bag under pressure. That, plus the fact we're technically the 'home' team means that casual bettors will give us a few points.

I can agree with some of that logic. Some may not realize or care that the game is played in downtown Cincinnati which to me makes it a homer for us more than for the Redhawks. The line has moved to UC 1.5 dogs. Pick 'em...

I'm definitely rooting for UCLA this week against the Sooners. Tall order but hopefully they put up a better fight in Norman than Lane Kiffin and Co. did last Saturday. UCLA is currently 30 point dogs LOL.

Guessing Michael Pitts will be back in action Saturday night after the early ejection @ UCLA. Is he typically a starter and will his return further improve a pretty stout defense for UC against MU?

After the way our DLine played all game, I'm extremely interested in how Pitts fits in since he was getting time ahead of Tucky it seemed (who played very well in his own right).

One thing's for sure, Broughton looked like a spitting image of Terrill Byrd out there on Saturday...here's hoping he can keep that up!

It'll be almost laughable how much better our D-line plays this year with a guy who knows how to coach them (Stripling) with a year of experience, rather than having a recruiter thrown at a position group like the last five years (Washington/Prunty).

Pitts is a starter and one the staff is big on. As well as Broughton, Copeland, and Wright are going to play up the middle a good edge rush will make us really strong up front

Getting Pitts back should be pretty big. I've heard he is the best pass rusher on the team. With that said I also thought Tucky had a nice game on Saturday. Probably the two best pass rushers UC has. (I do think the Sanders kid is going to be big-time).

Always thought highly of Stripling too--especially after leading a patchwork coaching staff to victory against Duke in the Belk Bowl. In retrospect, I guess we can be glad Tubs stayed off the sidelines that night!
