RE: Schedule Breakdown: LA Tech
Here’s a question for you Techies out there. What is the minimum number of wins Holtz needs to stick around. LA Tech hasn’t won a C-USA championship yet. At what point do you move on for someone who you think can actually win the championship? Or is just winning bowl games okay to y’all? I’m curious. On the flip side, how willing is Tech to keep Holtz if a P5 comes knocking?

doubtful he's on the hot seat unless this season is an epic failure

Assuming Tech continues to have winning seasons he won't be fired. At his age it is hard to see what school would come after him. All that said I am expecting a CUSA West Title. FAU or Marshall would both be tough to beat as it will likely be a road game.

I see it like this:

If he doesn't win a championship, but keeps putting up 8 and 9 win seasons with bowl game victories, I doubt he's on any kind of hotseat. But the second he throws in a stinker 2 or 3 win season, Tech might part ways with him.

If he gets a championship under his belt, he'd be better protected against the inevitable down year.

All that said, he appears to run a clean program and is an affable guy, which is pretty important to the admin.

Nostradamus here, The last time we played LSU they were #9, Tech lead at halftime LSU pulled away in the 4th to win 24-16. Im sure #6 Alabama thought that also when Tech beat them. Anything can happen

You do realize Troy lost South Alabama the week after Tech beat USA. Losing that bad to Sunbelt team is pitiful sorry UNT fans, don't embarrass CUSA like that on National TV anymore

Our loss to you correlates to other teams just as much as our win over USA- it doesnt. Its a big loop of loss. You beat us by one point in a down year... lets hold up there.

I agree that we could go into the circle of suck as it’s often referred to as. We’ll be able to settle who is better on 9/29. The current streak is UNT +1. That could flip to LA Tech +1 this year or could continue to UNT +2 this year. There’s only 1 way to know for sure.

I am not sold on J'Mar's abilities. He HAS to improve that completion percentage. If he's still around 55%, you'll win 8 max.

Bingo! Thats why I didn’t give specifics in my guess for the season. Just an outline. You never know what will happen between now and any certain game that can possibly alter the outcome.

I think the LSU game will give a lot of insight into what to expect in the UNT game. Keep it within 7 or win & I think LT will have a greater than 50% chance of beating us.

Certainly. And if J’Mar and co. can score on LSU, they’ll be fine in conference play. Offense is about the biggest factor here. Likeise LSU’s 3 early games will tell me all I need to know about them before our game.

Why are y'all so excited about J'Mar? His stats from the spring game weren't very good.

Starting quarterback and Blue team signal caller J'Mar Smith was a bit high on his throws for much of the afternoon and finished 13-for-34 for a game-high 113 yards.

I agree. LA Tech fans seem high on his ability to improve this season, but I have yet to see him produce on the field at a level that makes me believe there is going to be a dramatic improvement over his play from last season. In truth, if he plays at the same level he did last season, Tech will probably be in trouble. Most defenses know his tendencies, and will make things uncomfortable for him.

I just don't see a high ceiling for Smith, and I don't believe he will become one of the better QB's in C-USA. Even with a good defense, a team with a mediocre offense will struggle in C-USA. UTSA had an outstanding defense for most of last season, and they finished 6-5 (3-5 in conference play). I see a similar situation for LA Tech this season. I know it isn't a popular opinion, but it's how I think this plays out.

Most Tech fans agree with the above

Yeah, not sold on him either. Surprisingly JMar was 4th in CUSA in passing last year, but pretty bad in the red zone. He has the tools cannon arm, size, and speed.

He’s got a high ceiling, more so than Fine. Faster, stronger, better arm but doesn’t necessarily translate to a better QB
