The offense was backed up inside the five to start the first team period, but Jeremy Cox ran for 12-yards and a first down on the first play.
Lawrence Garner disrupted a run for a five-yard loss.
Kesean Strong delivered the biggest play of practice, a 93-yard touchdown run. Strong started off the left side, cutback to the right, broke a tackle and ran down the sideline for the score.
Steven Williams connected with Nijee Cox for a 20-yard completion, and found Noah Ellison for a 25-yard gain as Ellison made a nine one-handed catch down the sideline.
Nick Rice kicked a 45-yard field goal.
Williams found Isaiah Harper for a 30-yard completion.
Damion Charity and Elijah Blue had pass breakups.
Christian Herbin recorded a sack.
Williams ended a goal line period with a touchdown pass to Keion White.
Nick Rice drilled a 42-yard field goal to end practice.

Practice indeed but good to know SW is hitting his receivers instead of airing out over them. That was frustrating to watch last season

Yep. I was told that there was a legit qb controversy. It seems that in these past few weeks, SW has separated himself from everyone. Good to hear.

Nice! Glad to hear that SW is impressing in camp. ODU has a chance to be very good if SW is ready to take his game to the next level.

Hmm, interesting. If you google QB controversy, it will pretty much list all the QB "competitions" going on in the NFL today.....and Bama/Georgia

I am just here to let everyone know that I also have only known it as QB Controversy before. QB competition is kind of a given... everyone is competing. It becomes a controversy when the coach has a tough call to make.

I guess I never paid much attention. Seems like they're using that word in an effort to drum up more drama for reading material. I'll get off my soap box, nothing to see here.

Exactly. If controversy means they are all working harder with more of an edge, PLEASE use that term. I'm just glad to hear the young SW is progressing. He has the physical gifts to create BIG problems for opponents.

Listening to the BW after practice interviews, it seems he's running a more physical fall camp this year. Definitely got an edge to him. I like it!

Yeah, no Wisconsin Escape Room trips this year. I'm on board with this.

Some of our players, amari Colbert and Matt Geiger, are on the Netflix series qb1. Geiger is shown a fair amount, shows pretty much what those on here have described about him. Interesting watch to get you through the last couple weeks without real
Football.

Amari Colbert is not our player any longer. I have a good feeling Geiger will be a very good player.

I am getting really worried about the offense. Not sure how much of it is that we have a great defense or we are just bad on offense. I have heard from sources that we still look mediocre at best at QB and OL. RBs are good, WRs not so much. How far can defense carry us this year?

Well, the first chance for most of us to make our own judgement on the offense will be August 25th;

We don't have a great defense. ODU was #92 in the nation in total defense last season. I think they could be better this season, but if the offense can't score it will be an ugly season.

RE: Camp: Sights and sounds
Offense is very vanilla. Has been. We got by with better skilled players when we were FCS. At FBS all teams are bigger and faster, but we haven't seemed to improve the play calling. We can't WR screen the opposing defenses to death.

Also, remember, the D has seen this offence their entire careers. If we don't have outstanding players on offense the D should win head to head a lot.

We need a broader playbook than anything we've shown to date.

Our D should be OK against the run. I do not believe our LB corps is FBS quality. I hate playing 2 LBs. Horrible field coverage, and once you get pass the DL you have +6 years gains like crazy.

However, just like last year, if you can't stop teams from passing (and we were piss poor last year) teams will move the ball on us very easily. When we got a pass rush our passing D was not horrible. When we couldn't pressure the passer our defensive secondary got picked apart very easily. Yes, that happens to all teams. But I've watched this D for 9 seasons now, and we still cannot cover the field.

We need either better players or better coaches. Or maybe both.
