Rice wins 99-95.
For the second straight game the Owls showed good poise down the stretch.
+1!
That's something last year's team did not show very often.
I also like that the Owls are coming out on top in high scoring games. Of course, I have no idea regardng the level of competition, but winning is better than not winning.

Good question. What do we know about the level of competition?

A win is a win is a win, so not complaining. Just wondering.

Agree but another positive is rebounding. There were two possessions around a minute to go where we got a key rebound put back and another that allowed us to run clock and forced them to foul.

Thanks. As usual, my memory is a tangled mess. IIRC, it used to be that the NBA three point line was further out, so maybe that is what I was thinking. As we have established, IDRC more often than I do.

Looking at the box score, one HUGE positive I took away was the high number of assists we had, and they were spread out among almost all the players. Last year our APG figures were downright embarrassing. Our half court offense was stagnant with almost no movement without the ball.

Well Ricky Rubio is playing for Barcelona All-Stars, so we'll see how this game goes.

-21 assists on 41 made baskets
-43.8% from 3
-Murphy and Peterson were a combined 8-14 from 3. They've both looked fearless shooting from deep. Peterson especially has a lightning quick release
-Looks like Jack Williams can consistently give us a solid 10-15 a night scoring inside and out

7 players in double figures. Williams had 13 points and 15 rebounds in 20 minutes. Ako had 9 assists and Moore had 7. Only 13 turnovers and 21 assists. Free throws were a problem with 11-22. Almost 2 months to get ready for the season.

7 guys in double figures...Adams with 9 assists, Moore with 6...21 assists to 13 turnovers.

Only real negative was the 11-22 from the charity stripes, and the porous defense.

Can anyone here honestly say this team didn't exceed their expectations for this trip?

Wa to go players and coaching staff!

Yea... no way this was a real team from Barcelona’s club. Assuming Rubio was player C and they just let him shoot the whole game. Interested in the write up to follow.

Makes me think a top NBA player could beat us on his own.

Barcelona All-Stars, if I'm remembering correctly from past trips, are not an official team but essentially just a group of professional players thrown together. Loyola (IL) beat them by like 17 in 2016, so they are by no means actual "all-stars". The later you play them, the more good professionals you get because players are returning to Spain for their official seasons.

I would like to know more about the quality of the opposition, but even worst case this is a very positive result.

A win is a win is a win, and three of them are three of them, regardless of opposition.

So, let's see, we beat them by 9. So we are 8 points worse than Loyoa, who were a Final 4 team in 2018 and basically a .500 team in the Valley the year before? I'll take being 8 points worse than that.

Clemson only beat them by 10 in the same year, though. By that math, we're basically an ACC team. Bring on Duke.

I know things don't really work that way, but it's still fun to speculate.

Seriously I would guess, given our turnover, that it would be more beneficial than usual to have this opportunity for extra work on the front end of the season. Now let's go get some extra work on the back end.
