RE: Goodbye Fickell?
i never really got the thing where someone had more of a right to support a university and or it's athletics just because so and so went to said university. you think all those hoosier hoop fans down and out in the brown county sticks went to state u? hell no, probably not. they just grew up with that hoosier red same like these folks in columbus which encompasses a vast region. i'd wager those folk have more right to the athletics/university because that's part of their home. i understand why folks will forgive urban just like paterno. it's pretty stupid and i'm sure they know it is, the pull is just too strong i'm afraid

I am actually a grad of Miami U, but a big UC fan. I love this city, and the stadium is 10 min from my house. Hopefully, you guys don't hate on us non-alum fans too much!

McMurphy reported yesterday that Zach Smith's bonuses/raises were as follows:
2014: $50,000
2015: $6,600 (On his performance review, "Personal Matters" was listed in the "Needs Work" section)
2016: $74,000
2017: $40,000
So yeah...they've definitely found paperwork that proves everyone knew at least, and figured only paying him $6,600 more was enough of a penalty.

No hate at all; all are welcome to be part of the UC community, Bearcat sporting events and be passionate supporters of the home team.
The "lunatic fringe" referenced earlier in this thread, in my mind, is about a non-alumni cohort that affiliates with athletics only and then demonstrates blind allegiance to a winning coach (Paterno); even when confronted with facts confirming transgressions that harmed individuals and damaged the university's overall reputation.

Just do not wear MU gear to NIP except when MU is playing UC. You do not need to wear UC gear but I hate when others wear gear of a non playing team.
I wish MU well except when playing UC. I am happy if MU wins the MAC as long as we beat you.

14, 16 and 17 were years they made the playoffs and/or won the B1G. I don't believe they did either in 15. My hunch is that all the other position coaches might show a similar fluctuation.
The "personal matters" thing matters though. If Meyer did inform the athletic department, then who made the final decision. Did the AD? Did the AD kick it to human resources for guidance? Did the AD want to do something more substantive but Meyer threatened to fight it tooth and nail in order to protect Earl Bruce's grandkid? If Meyer is telling the truth that he did notify the AD, then the questions above are most likely what that committee is sorting through.

I've never really understood the disdain for t-shirt fans. I wish UC had more t-shirt fans.
Who cares if they went to the school or not if they show up, fill your stadium and cheer for your team?

This. I am not a UC alum; in fact, I attended Ohio State for a while before transferring to a technical school and graduating there. But I grew up in Cincinnati and became a fan at a very young age, and my loyalty remains with the teams I grew up loving. I have no problem with OSU fans who didn't graduate there; just saying that when I encounter one who is a raving lunatic, it's rarely a graduate of the university.

RE: Goodbye Fickell?
As OKIcat stated, some of the crazier t-shirt fans tend to not care about the reputation of the university and put winning above all else. Those are the types you saw outside the stadium holding "Metoo" signs. There are also a lot of non-alumni who do care about the reputation of the university they follow. Even though I did not attend UC, I follow the non-athletic stuff fairly closely and care about the reputation of the university, as I still feel a deep connection to UC.

AT BEST, Urban knew, reported it, and then kept the guy on the staff despite knowing the university turned a blind eye.
Urb was the second highest paid public employee in the state last year (somehow Chris Holtman was #1). Is it really so much to ask that he's held to SOME semblance of an ethical standard??

We'll see what the report states. If there OSU fan sites are to be believed, there police are prepared to testify on his behalf. I'll let it play out before judging his guilt.

This is a delicate issue, especially in the court of public opinion.
I will only add that from my own experience, I have had employees that reported to people that reported to me that have done really stupid things. Corporate HR rules/policies border on ridiculous sometimes in terms of what you can/cannot do.
Yes - I know that tO$U is not a corporation...but being a state institution, I can only imagine how much worse the HR tangled web of rules might be. The very things that are designed to help employees sometimes have unintended negative consequences.
I am not condoning domestic abuse. But I am saying that it is quite possible that his hands were tied, despite what common sense might have suggested.

I find it hard to believe that he knew of domestic abuse in 2009, then found out about a separate incident in 2015, and refrained from action due to legal complications. If that's the case, why lie about it at B1G media days so blatantly?

It's like this with all the big-name sports schools, ND, UK, OSU, etc. The nutballs are rarely actual graduates.
