Glad to hear Mulkey has hit the weight room. She could add 60 lbs and she'd still be on the skinny side! Any word on Olivia?

Actually I saw Mulkey for a couple of seconds as she was passing thru the gym and she looked pretty good, much better than last year. Talked briefly with Erica and she said Olivia was OK.

Good job. I'll be interested to see the box score.

As far as the women go, I am getting worried about their non-conference schedule. I've been checking out a lot of the top 25 teams and we're not on anyone's schedule. I know we play North Carolina (and 1 other team) in a tournament in South Carolina. We host New Orleans (blah) and that's all I know. It's possible we'll play very few top-100 RPI teams.

We'll play them in March.

Feel like if you want to bump interest in a sport very much in a rut, a little more social media engagement couldn't be a bad idea. Maybe it was a coach's choice, but no starting lineups, updates, stats, etc.?

*** Correction, I'll dampen my criticism a bit. Rice's Facebook account has some extended footage of the game.

I saw Tim the basketball SID on the laptop in the video too so I'm pretty sure he was keeping stats. I'm sure we'll see a recap shortly.

BTW, I read this morning that parts of Spain and Portugal were possibly going to experience an all-time record high for Europe today (possibly 118 degrees farenheit or 48 celsius!). I think Madrid was a bit cooler than that, but hopefully they won't blame the Rice players for bringing the Texas heat with them (and hopefully there is AC everywhere).

Quick takeaways from the posted clips:

-Shooting should be much improved. Murphy hit a couple threes, Williams hit a couple shots, Peterson hit a couple
-D looked a bit suspect and a step slow, which is kind of expected this early in preseason
-Pera was very animated and loud. Looks like he coaches every game as if it's the NCAA Tournament
-Good to see JT is a grad assistant (I think)
-QMB looks really raw and a bit slow, but had a huge rebound + FTs towards the end of the game

eta - Williams has a funky shooting motion but he'll be a big contributor. I think Peterson will be a key performer too. He and one of the freshman guards will likely start along with Adams, Parrish and Williams.

Last year the schedule was released on Thursday, August 10th. So maybe this week?

The Women play at UCLA on November 11th (I believe).

I believe the game will be returned next season.

They will have a really good schedule.

Starting lineup of Ako, Rob, Josh, Chris, QMB. Gonna be a healthy dose of small ball this year.

They're broadcasting the game on Periscope, but you can't really see much because it's blurry. My one early observation: the newcomers are unafraid to shoot. Peterson's taken a couple quick shots and hit one, Murphy has hit a couple more.

We're definitely gonna be a better shooting team than last year.

Q: are they playing International roles? The 3 point line is closer internationally, right?

For the second straight game the Owls showed good poise down the stretch.

+1!

That's something last year's team did not show very often.

I also like that the Owls are coming out on top in high scoring games. Of course, I have no idea regardng the level of competition, but winning is better than not winning.

Good, balanced offense, but...defense needs considerable work, especially down low.
