RE: Jimmye’s Retirement
Can't imagine how emotional the Richmond game is going to be. Let's hope this season will surpass predictions and there will be postseason play to follow.

Congrats to coach Laycock

Looking forward to this season as a springboard to a Tribe revival on the grid iron.

I hope we find another good one.

I wish he wasn’t retiring. I think he has plenty in the tank. But I understand. I really hate this timing for the program though. Especially now that there is a December signing period.

Jimmye’s Retirement
Good for him. He made a great life for his family coaching his alma mater. Not a bad deal.

Huge should be on the phone with Corley right now.

Agreed. Time to get a new coach with a pedigree that connects. I vote for Tomlin or McDermott. Not getting those? Corley is a great choice.

One game at a time. Love to see a magical season. Worry about the future at the end.

"No college football coach has led his alma mater longer."

I have to think that both Coach and AD Huge were very intentional about this timing. They both want this program to succeed greatly long after Coach’s retirement. It’ll be interesting to see if they already have a successor in mind and lined up or if it’ll be a full blown national search with AD Huge able to really put her stamp on the program.

I have a feeling we will see something like what happened with women’s soccer where AD Huge hired Coach Shackford to succeed Coach Daly. So you had a new coach with a direct W&M Connection with also a highly successful pedigree.

Dave Corley certainly should garner a strong look, and I’d love him, but he has never been a head coach before; I wonder how much that matters to Huge. Who else with a W&M Connection that would be a strong and realistic consideration?

His successor will come in due time. Time now is to celebrate and be grateful for his tenure. I hope every player who touched that field will be back on it at halftime of the Richmond game.

Absolutely ... I’m glad we get to celebrate him, and others do to, all season long.

Bills have a bye that week, and Steelers play Sunday night in Jacksonville. Do-able.

Congratulations to Coach Laycocke on a great career and thank you for all the great work. We have all benefitted from his career. I hope that his final season is successful beyond all expectations. He deserves to go out a winner.

Go TRIBE!

I look at it the other way- they have plenty of time to figure out which direction they want to go.

From Richmond coach, and former W&M aide, Russ Huesman on Jimmye Laycock: “When I got there, I didn’t know if a football was oblong or round. I had no clue about anything. By the time I left there after 13 years, I felt like I knew how to coach. He was a huge reason for that."

Gonna be a memorable day in the 'Burg. Hope the Notre Dame folks will be gratious enough to play the bball game that evening.

RE: Jimmye’s Retirement
Well first things first. Congrats to Coach Laycock and his family.
I would like to thank him for everything he has done for the college. You can’t even put into words how historic it is. I hope he has a happy life in retirement. He deserves it.

Now into the replacement. I think hiring someone from inside isn’t the greatest of ideas. Corley seems like a really great fit. Or, we could reach for someone who’s Alma matter isn’t WM. There are many great coaches out there, and I wouldn’t mind giving one a chance.

Just to get in front of it, I don't think it's insensitive to discuss his potential replacement. It's kinda a big deal. I think the world of JL and I will miss seeing him on the sideline. I'm really happy for him and cannot thank him enough for what he's given my college since he played for the Indians or whatever we were back in 1969.
