I’m not surprised our non-revenue athletes have a high gpa but I thought football, baseball, and basketball would bring us down some. A 3.3 at Rice is much harder than any other school in the conference.

It's interesting that Rice wins this award but I think MT has the best program APR.

Shows the pros and cons of both metrics.

Well yeah, but you're comparing Rice football, baseball, and basketball to C-USA's public institutions where the same sports bring most of our schools down a little also. It's an apples-to-oranges competition in every aspect. Is it safe to assume that the only two years you didn't win it was when you were among other private schools, like Tulane, Tulsa, SMU, or TCU? The others have all moved on and you're kinda here on an island now.

I've never thought much of this type of ranking. First, would not the better academies are, the harder it would be to have high grades. Thus, having a high grade point average may just as well point to an easy academic program as it does a bunch of superior students.

Second, every D! athletic program shelters their athletics from failure by steering them into programs that can have success in.

Rice probably gets a higher level of student athletes in academies than any other CUSA school. However stats like this don't prove anything.

clt says it is harder to get into a school like rice, but much easier to graduate.

Sure a lot of athletes go into sports management, but that’s probably the closest to a “sheltered major” at Rice. While I was in school our team football captain was a chemical engineer. We also had a first team CUSA defensive lineman skip his senior season to take a 6 figure project management job at a pipeline company (he was a mechE). We don’t have enough majors for many sheltered ones. Apprently one reason our women’s basketball program has been recruiting well lately is our coach let’s them major in anything they want.

I knew kids that failed out of Rice (not athletes). There’s definitely grade inflation mostly because so many kids are premed and med schools are all about that high GPA. If one elite private school does it they all have to do it.
