So if you want apples to apples adding just those categories up from your figures above. 36,976+34,833+4,423+5,778 = 82K active duty and civilian personnel in SA.

Or conversely, according to this the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth services approximately 420,000 active duty, family members and retirees in the area. But that number doesn't include civilians.

https://www.military.com/base-guide/nava...portsmouth

If your intention is to compare 82K active duty and civilian personnel for one city (San Antonio) covering 470 square miles, to 150K active duty and civilian personnel for the entire Hampton Roads area (8 cities spanning 3,800 square miles), that's not apples to apples. Far from it. So again, I'm not sure what the issue is here.

If you guys can find a larger concentration of military personnel in just one city, then I can understand you taking issue with the Military City moniker, which again is beside the point of this thread to begin with. If however, you can't, I think this conversation is over.

I was just correcting the last poster. I don't care what SA calls themselves but to say 150K is the entire population of everyone connected to the military in HR is just wrong. Looks more like a half million including retirees, families and civilian workers. Which is about a third of the population.

Fair enough, but in correcting him, you made an error yourself because your own comparison wasn't apples to apples either. I said from the outset of this delightfully immaterial debate that it was a matter of looking at one city of 470 square miles vs. eight cities of 3,800 square miles, so I don't know how it even got this far. But I hope it's all done now, and that this thread can get back to its intent.

Hats off to both Hampton Roads and San Antonio though for our support of the military community. I say that as an Army brat whose dad served for over 20 years, and who comes from a family with a long line of military service, with me being the oddball who didn't follow in that succession. lol

It's seven cities actually and a lot of that area is peanut fields or marshlands.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hampton_Roads

And according to wiki, it's actually nine, so who's to say? But that probably depends on how we define the word and is really as immaterial as the rest of this debate has been.

These are the realist OOC teams I would like Charlotte to regularly schedule home & home games with whose fans would travel well to Charlotte. Appalachian St, Liberty, ECU, Duke, Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina & Georgia St.

We need to play our conference games and build up our own fan base. However, we need to develop some regional rivalries that could help boost our average attendance. Who are some realist regional teams that could help boost your teams attendance?

App State fans sold out the September game already. Should be interesting to see the ratio of App to Charlotte fans. My assumption will be 55/45, App State, considering for most App fans, a trip to Charlotte is easier than a trip to Boone.

How far from each other are the two campuses? What are the enrollments?

Just about any P5 will generate a huge interest in Huntington. Of all of the P5s that have come here, only one (Temple '99) didn't get a bunch of people excited. All of the others were sellouts or pretty close (WVU, Kansas State, VaTech, Purdue, and Louisville all were great crowds).

About 2 hours or a little less. App has a total enrollment around 18-19,000 (IIRC) and we have ~30,000.

It makes sense for you guys to play one another. Shouldn't it sell out at both places?

Not really. The problem is that a person can't get to Boone via conventional transportation. You see, one must have a vehicle equipped with the Flux Capacitor to reach it.

+100. Seriously though, would it be sacrilege for CUSA and Sun Belt to create, at least, a limited scheduling alliance in football? Can't you guys create better rivalries with Georgia Southern and Appalachian State than with Rice and UTSA?

RE: What OOC Teams Could Help Build Your School’s Attendance
I love our future OOC home schedules. I honestly can't complain with how our scheduling has went the last little bit. Very impressed with our AD in this regard.

2018

NC State at home. Will be a sell out around 38-40k

2019

Ohio- 30-34k
Cincinnati - 32-36k

2020

Pittsburgh- will be a sell out 38-40k
Boise St- def over 30k for this one.

2021 and beyond....

Navy
ECU
App State

Way back in the day Marshall, MT, App State, and Georgia Southern used to all butt heads quite often. I'd love to get some of those games back on the schedule.

Well, we were pretty horrendous in 1999. We didn't even have a real student section until several years after that.

Also, Rice has a similar 2-1 worked out with LSU as we do with Texas. Pretty sure any C-USA team would take both of those deals.

With regard to games on campus, UH obviously draws well but so do schools like Baylor. The Baylor game (with the now infamous MOB show and Briles appearance) was probably 60% Rice, 40% Baylor.

Well, 6 times closer is more accurate, but fair enough. And accurate statement about the Texas and LSU deals. We've played some out-of-state P5's at the Alamodome in 2-for-1 deals in our first few years, which drew well, but not as well as Texas or LSU would.

And like I said, Texas would likely never agree to play in the Alamodome against their little sister school. Miner supporters would be able to say whether Texas has ever played in El Paso because I don't know. Rice is a more reputable football program than we are because of its academics and rich history, are a former conference member with UT, and NRG Stadium is bigger and better than the Alamodome, and an NFL facility to boot.

Texas played at UTEP give or take a decade ago. Attendance was very good.

App will likely have at least 50%. Between Charlotte fans selling their tickets and the pick-up's App was able to get through their allotment and when tickets became available, this game should be well represented by App State. It's easier for many people to travel to Concord for a game than to travel to Boone and App has had back to back seasons of having a crowd of 35,000 for at least one game.

Having a game in Charlotte is that game this year.
