Buffalo Wild Wings coming to downtown Birmingham
https://www.al.com/business/index.ssf/20..._to_d.html

The standalone restaurant is expected to open in the Parkside District about two blocks from Regions Field and the University of Alabama at Birmingham in early October, said Tim Spencer, director of operations for the franchise group Southern Wings, which owns eight Buffalo Wild Wings.

"If you are a sports fan, now you have a place to go," he said.

The Buffalo Wild Wings will have a capacity of about 300 and be able to host large groups before or after Birmingham Barons games, Spencer said.

The restaurant is partnering with UAB football and the Barons, he said. The football games and Barons away games will be streamed at the downtown Buffalo Wild Wings.

I generally dislike chain restaurants - but BWW is a great place to watch football/basketball and Im always glad to have another option within a few blocks of my place!

This. I know where I'll be eating dinner Thursdays before home games.

Is the phrasing of the last two sentences meant to say that UAB's away football games, as with Barons away games, will be streamed live at that location?

They typically have a million screens going, so showing a UAB away game wouldn't be much of a problem aside from availability...

I assumed, by the article, that UAB would be the primary game showcased whenever they're away.

I'm sure it will be a nice place, but Iron City fought alongside us, and will have my business until they get tired of operating.

Be sure to say hello to the folks from the Auburn Alumni meeting during the coach's radio show.

Yep. The question is what will happen when UAB, Alabama, and Auburn have conflicting events. And I agree, Iron City deserves our continued patronage, but it's always nice to have options. Personally, with its close priximity to Bartow, I also envison pre- or post- basketball game dining(especially considering that UAB basketball home games are date nights for my wife and I)...

Did they close the Milos down that was downtown?

Even if not, it wasn't one that had a drive through.

It's now in the bottom of one of those mid-rise apt. complexes on 19th St. Still no drive-thru.

Regarding drive thrus -- Some years ago there was a fast food brand (Chick-Fil-A?) that wanted to open an outlet at 5 Points South with a drive thru but was blocked by some sort of zoning ordinance on drive thrus where they wanted to build. I don't recall the details, but they built elsewhere. Perhaps Milo's ran into the same problem.

No, there's a Chick Fil A in 5 points that doesn't have a drive through. There's also one in the financial district without a drive through as well.

The Milo's on Southside has been there way, way longer than the Chick-fil-a at Five Points. It's been in the bottom of the apartments across from UAB Hospital since I can remember, at the very least the early 00s.

Chick-fil-a wanted a drive thru at their new location at Five Points South but was denied the drive thru. They still opened in the originally desired location, though, in 2011.

Sometimes in dense urban environments you can't have drive thrus. Milo's couldn't, there's no room in that building. Chick Fil A could've squeezed one in but it violated zoning regulations. Two different situations.

I'm showing my age 03-old but I recall in the early to mid eighties Milos was located on the east side of 20th street where the Kirkland Clinic parking lot is now located. Before that I believe it was an H. Salt Fish and Chips. How about that for a derailment?
