The last season of Arena?
The AFL playoff is underway. It's a two game CUMULATIVE score system. There are only four teams left in the AFL. Five if you count Cleveland, which is on a two year hiatus while the Cavaliers build a new venue.

All the "name" ownership groups are largely gone. The last holdout with a name behind them is Ron Jaworski, owner of the Philadelphia Soul and largely the tent pole keeping things up.

Now I think AFL won't go away entirely. The name and assets have value. It just may take a bankruptcy to go get that value. But they need the following large scale changes at a minimum:

- Shred the CBA between the players and teams ... it was written at the height of the AFL boom when they had AF2.

- Start adding teams in Top 50 media markets that have NO competition in them. Sacramento. Raleigh. Portland. Hartford. Columbus, OH. Salt Lake City. Greenville, SC. Oklahoma City. Norfolk. Birmingham. Etc.

- Get owners who have business sense and local connections .... not owners who are celebrities with big checkbooks and short attention spans.

The Arena football League may end up folding but indoor football will live on in lesser leagues where the pay is $250 and teams travel by bus only.

It's a shame, they really had something going on before the recession hit and suspended a season.

It seems like I read a few weeks ago about the possibility of an expansion team in Tucson.

Baltimore will host Washington Saturday in the Arena Bowl.

Remember when the AFL was on NBC?

Chicago Rush won the league starting 5-9. It was the first time a losing team won a professional sports league since the 1930s Black Hawks.

Rosemont Horizon hosted Northwestern Bball this year and you could still find patterned walls and floors with Rush and DePaul colors - neither of which play there any longer.

Yes, partially owned by Arizona Rattlers HC Kevin Guy. He's already ruled out Arena League.

https://tucson.com/sports/local/kevin-gu...7b199.html

Guy said he was still pursuing a league, though he ruled out joining the Arena Football League.

The Champions Indoor Football is the most logical option. CIF includes one team in Albuquerque, two in Texas and others scattered throughout the midwest. Tucson is unlikely to join the Rattlers' Indoor Football League, in part because of the conflict of interest that would arise with Guy owning the Tucson franchise while coaching the Phoenix team.

There are a ridiculous number of indoor leagues. And as long as it's all broken up and segmented like that it'll never gain traction. You want the AFL's umbrella and name recognition but to jettison the financial burdens of its existing arrangements. And as long as the XFL is pursuing NFL markets like they claim they are there will still be a big market for indoor football if it can ever get its act together.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indoor_Ame...ll#Leagues

Look at the number of leagues popping in and fizzing out over the last 15 years trying to cash in while the AFL flails under the weight of its CBA.

RE: The last season of Arena?
Aha, Arena redid their CBA just this year to avoid folding, and that was probably what spurred the addition of the Albany, Washington, and Baltimore franchises: https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/201...each-agre/

I am watching the Arena Bowl right now. Ron Jaworski said at least four teams would be added for next year.

RE: The last season of Arena?
The brought in enough money and expansion teams. They are back for another year.
