Rank How Well Your Divisional Opponents Travel
Just wondering...

Which divisional teams bring the most fans to your football games? Rank them.

North Texas

1. UTEP/UTSA- both have large numbers of alums and fans in DFW, and they show up to games in Denton.

2. LA Tech- Their fans in DFW come out for games at Apogee and fans from Ruston seem to travel well too.

3. Southern Miss- Although they don't bring large numbers of fans, I think they bring more then our old Sun Belt opponents from similar distances.

4. Rice- They don't bring many, but then there aren't many of them.

5. UAB- Birmingham is 675 miles from Denton. I'm sure we will be near the bottom of their ranking too.

Might wanna check the distance from Denton to Birmingham instead 03-wink...

From what I noticed at Rice:

1) UTSA
2) UNT/LA Tech
3) USM
4) UTEP
5) (We never played UAB at home while I was a student)

Ha! Thanks. Fixed it.

I'm surprised Southern Miss brings more fans then UTEP. I thought Houston had a large number of UTEP alums. Also, I've been to all the North Texas games at Rice since we joined C-USA, and am shocked LA Tech brings as many as we do. I certainly thought we brought a really good crowd last season.

Louisiana Tech

1. Southern Miss - Their fans travel well to Ruston.

2. UTSA - Has a good traveling fan base also.

3. UNT - Should start seeing more "mean greenies" traveling to Ruston, now that the program is on an upswing.

4. Rice - Doesn't bring a lot but does bring their "vaudevillian" type band, which is entertaining.

4. UTEP - Probably brings about the same amount as Rice from what I can remember.

5. UAB - Hasn't played in Ruston yet during our CUSA run. Interested to see how many fans they bring.

I think it’s more of a statement of how bad UTEP has been recently. I remember my freshman year which was their New Mexico bowl year there was a nice crowd for that game as both teams had winning records. Downward slope for both since.

LA Tech has always brought a good crowd (as has UNT). Not really a dig at UNT more a positive statement about LT.

Obviously kinda OT since we're not in conference with any of yall, but of the 3 CUSA West teams we've hosted I'd rank them like this:

1. UTSA - for obvious reasons

2. USM - didn't really bring a whole lot of fans themselves but this was the most well attended game that wasn't a Texas team besides Navy. Our fans showed up for yall for whatever reason. 27k.

3. La Tech - the first ever ranked team that we hosted in bobcat stadium surprisingly didnt attract many people. Was one of the most exciting games I've ever seen though.

Our game against y'all was great. 56-50 neither team played any defense.

RE: Rank Your How Well Your Divisional Opponents Travel
The western teams travel a bit to Rice both for football and basketball. UTSA's first year back in football, they had an amazing crowd at Rice Stadium. I think we might have played both Houston and Baylor that year or the next year, and UTSA easily outdrew both of those teams in terms of fan support.

UTEP does well when they are good, but sadly they haven't been any good lately. Louisiana Tech and USM bring some folks too in all their sports. In fact, they probably bring the most folks of anyone in our division in basketball. UNT hasn't been great but their support has inched up a bit the last year or two. I do think our UNT crowds up in Denton will be better in the future as our new staff seems to be recruiting a ton of kids from the DFW metroplex.

I know you said within your division, but it's shocking how few people travel from the Eastern Division in football. Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky have large enrollments, and they're not that much further from Houston than UAB, so I really don't understand why they'd bring so many fewer folks. But we certainly are in no position to ever complain about opponents' crowd sizes.

I am a great fan because I travel the 18 miles from home to see Charlotte play 6 times per year. I would have to be an idiot to drive to away games at this point. I don't think anyone knows how we would travel as a fan base until we start to win. I do know we have sent thousands to Alabama for a soccer game, so I think we might travel.

ODU;

Football-
1. Marshall
2. Charlotte
3. WKU

Hoops-
1. WKU
2. Charlotte
3. Marshall

No one else brings much. But that's to be expected with how much of an island we're on in this league.

Every team in the league sends a few fans, I'm guessing the majority of which are stationed here with the military. And USM always has my neighbor representing. His school flag stays up year-round.

I would agree on all counts. And I think that the West teams in C-USA 3.0 travel better than those in 2.0. Tulsa and SMU never had significant visiting attendance, even when their teams were good. I think this explains why Rice has not scheduled SMU, Tulsa or Tulane out of conference since those programs left for the AAC.
