Yeah... no thanks.. that place is so disgustingly dirty and unkept, you couldn't pay me to eat anything out of there.

C'mon! Think about it, some of the best tacos, pizza, bbq, etc in America come from dirty hole in the walls! :)

Yeah like Payne's BBQ where they never wear gloves and just grabbing the meat and chopping it up with their bare fingers.

Anyone ever eat at Rockys? It was the snack bar at MLK Golf Course at McKellar Lake 25 or so years ago. It eventually closed and I think the building burned. Their burgers were off the chart. Customers would drive from all over to eat there.

Yep. Used to go there with my dad regularly as a kid. That was one terrible golf course but great burgers.

Clyde Gridley!!! I would walk across the Sahara for his ribs! His service was great, after waiting in line, and his bread and sides were also fantastic.

Best ribs ever!

For a good burger, try the Sear Shack in Collierville.

What is your top 5?

I bet he's going to list Brad's BBQ and then I'm going to Hulk Smash

Brads and Lois BBQ when they were both on Waring and Wells Station respectively were both good. Also Toms and Neelys were good. WERE!!!!

If we're talking closed joints, the one I miss is Little Pigs on Highland.

Live outside of Memphis for a while and you'll reconsider that "no such thing as bad BBQ" statement. There is such a thing, and it's not good.

My top 5 and everyone else top 5 are not gonna be the same. Doesn't matter. Just like asking who makes the best steak, marqarita or who has the best live music. All personal opinions.

No particular order. Going by location, price, convenience, service and overall food.

Fat Larry's
Baby Jacks
Leonards
G Commissary
Corkys
Rendezvous
Tops

Had to take it to 7.

2nd 6

BBQ Shop
Pollards
Interstate
Marlowe's
Cozy Corner
Payne's

In my opinion I will take all of the above over Central.

Everyone is entitled to be wrong, lol

To me, the best burger going right now is Memphis Mojo Cafe on 64 in Bartlett. They have a burger with slaw, bacon and bbq sauce on it. Will make your tongue slap your eye brows.

To me the Shear Shack is too expensive and not enough variety.

Did love the bread and chopped BBQ. Was never a fan of his muddy ribs.

Live outside of Memphis for a while and you'll reconsider that "no such thing as bad BBQ" statement. There is such a thing, and it's not good.

Seconded. Pork BBQ in Michigan is a melancholy affair.

I was on vacation in a small town in Michigan a few years back. There weren't many places to eat, but some guy opened a new BBQ joint. I don't often order BBQ when I'm traveling, but I decided to check it out. I walked in and ordered a shoulder sandwich at the counter. I asked the lady to put slaw and sauce on it.

As soon as I said "slaw and sauce" I heard a guy yell and run out of the kitchen. He asked, "Did you just order slaw and sauce on your sandwich? That's how you are supposed to do it, but nobody around here does it like that." He was very excited.

Turns out he was the owner and was a big fan of Memphis style BBQ. I told him I was from Memphis and we had a conversation about BBQ.

He didn't have BBQ nachos on his menu, but he did have BBQ soft tacos.

Cool story. Conversely I was outside Boston years ago training and we hit a spot for lunch that advertised Memphis Style BBQ. I paid extra for slaw on my sandwich. They mixed the sauce with the meat and put that on a bun. I showed my drivers license and told them it was false advertising.

Jerry Lawler charges extra for slaw on the sandwich and they ARE located in Memphis.
