RE: Football Recruiting: 2019
Two today. Are we seeing an uptick in recruiting pace because of the new stadium?

I think it just seems like a lot because they are all happening at once. A lot of it is committing before your senior year starts and that coincides with a lot of offers at various camps.

RE: Football Recruiting: 2019
It cannot hurt for recruits to see and hear construction work going on at FF, and to be shown plans for what it will look like down the road, so yes, I think there's some correlation. Not the whole reason, but a factor.

I like what I saw on his video. Welcome aboard Mr. Teagan McDonald. Looking forward to seeing you help anchor the Monarch O-line in the not-too-distant future. Cheers!

Not making any, accusatory remarks, but your comment made me laugh since for months, and possible years, folks have been lamenting how in state talent was going elsewhere. Soon everyone will be praising all our coaches recruiting ability

I hope so. I've said all along that recruiting down there should be easy relative to peer institutions. Now that we're about to be playing in something that attracts vs detracts, I'm hoping the size and speed picks up.
It's time to get it.

McDonald and Ruff. Are these the two or are we still missing an announcement?
Got the feeling we were going to hear from a TE

Could be Dean Powell of New Kent. He's more of a blocking TE but I haven't seen an announcement.

Not sure why, but the kid from Lake Taylor and his coaches comments fell like a game changer in recruiting the 757. Time will tell, but I'm predicting this class will become known as a game changing, tuning point for the program.
Agreed

Nope...need a couple of more high lightly regarded DL, OL, WR, and LB recruits. This is at best a mid level class. It will likely right now fall about #8 /9 in CUSA.

RE: Football Recruiting: 2019
247Sports has now rated all the current football commits of 2019. Two of the nine newly rated players are three-stars, WR Baxton Collins and DE Kevin Dameron, giving us a total of three along with QB Hayden Wolff. The good news is this places the Monarchs as the number two class in the conference. The bad news is -- this is solely because we have 15 commits. Our average rating is the next-to-worst in the conference at 0.7902 and ahead of only UTEP. Personally, I like just about all of our commits based on their videos, but we are not getting much love from 247Sports on this recruiting class to date.

RE: Football Recruiting: 2019
This is good news. I’m torn on this issue though, obviously I would like our players to be rated higher but I don’t think 247 really puts that much effort into grading 2 and 3 stars. I think if you are graded over a .8200 you are a pretty good player. If you are between .7500 and .8100 you really don’t know what you are going to get.

Whats new...been going on for the last 5 years. headed in the wrong direction recruiting. The new stadium if done correctly should help but even that s looking marginal at best.

RE: Football Recruiting: 2019
All years for which recruiting ranks/ratings are available (ETA: added historical rank in red):
2019*: #2, .7902 1
2018: #13, .7820 2
2017: #13, .7799 5
2016: #12, .7795 6
2015: #10, .7809 4
2014: #2, .7813 3
2013: #14, .7408 9
2012: #13, .7473 7
2011: #12, .7416 8
2019 doesn't count until they are all signed, sealed and delivered, but even if it all stayed the same, it would be an anomaly. Normally 12 or 13, with ratings slowly trending upward. Plenty of room for improvement but not going in the wrong direction.

I don't know, give me a kid who has some athletic ability is coachable and has a strong work ethic. And I'll take that kid all day. I'm not a huge believer in the star system.

Many people on this board obsess over 247 and the ratings. Our two highest rated recruits on 247 were Bentley and Appouh, both were very high 3 stars, on the edge of 4 stars. Bentley was a massive bust and Appouh is our 3rd best DE. The two best DEs, Ximines and Ward (low two star), were 2 stars when committed. Most of our best players were unrated or low two stars: Heinicke, Pascal, Pinkard, Duhart, Ricks, Wilkins, Clarke, etc.

And, I just saw that 3 out of our 4 three star recruits from the 2017 class are gone and never saw the field: Perkins, Colbert and Keisean Wilson
