Used to be that way, in fact at first there was a waiting list to get season tickets. There'd be a few tickets available the week of from the visiting team returning unsold tickets. The last few years there's still been tickets available. I believe they've upped the amount allocated to students as well (who usually show well). The "sell-out" streak has become a bit of a joke really. The announce the sellout every week but I'm not real sure how they do it.
The new stadium should drive demand I'd think and hopefully winning.
We have sold out season tickets every season. It's those returned guest tickets that we scramble to sell. Here's an article explaining last year's ticket sales;

VT is officially sold out as of last week.
Hmm. I was thinking that it ended a year or two ago. Maybe I'm remembering something else. Thanks for the correction.

ODU made a decision about 2 years ago to publicize that folks could get season tickets without being on the wait list (since it had evaporated) and single-game tickets (against non-P5s) were available to fans to try to buy.
That's when Harry started writing about it. I think that is what you're remembering.

Youth season tickets range from $45 to $100. There are 6 home games scheduled. The $220 tickets usually require Eagle Club membership so that price will actually be a little higher when it's said and done.
Also, they usually do a "flex plan" package where you can get 10 tickets for $120-150 (give or take). This allows you to buy 10 tickets that can be used all for the same game or you can spread it out however you wish. I know quite a few people who end up going this route as they never know how many family members/friends are coming to each game with them.
I checked the official USM athletic site, cant link for some reason, and all lower level seating except Sec A, I, and 110-113 is $220. Upper deck seating, other than chairbacks, are $110. Upper level chairbacks are $220. Lower level seats and upper level chairbacks require donations, depending upon location, and mine for example is $1500. Touchdown club (seating North End Zone space), Club seats (both sides) and South End Zone suites are handled separately though the ticket and athletic offices. Those flex plans as I understand are offered at times but limited to the East Side upper deck.

FWIW, there are a few high-rolling donors who really care about the sellout streak, and will buy out all the remaining tickets prior to kickoff. That's how we end up with a sellout even if it looks like 80% full.

Yep that's probably it. Was it about the same time they moved the students to the endzone so all season tickets would be on the sidelines? And Am I remembering correctly that they increased the number of student tickets?

Those high rollers are buying at most a couple hundred tickets. They aren't buying thousands. A lot of folks never make it into the games from the lots. Some are STH of other state schools. And others are packed like sardines in the beer garden. All of which help make it seem less full than it is.

Yes, that's when we started that push. Student tickets were originally 4k. It's now 4.5k. Here is what Harry reported as the breakdown (I added misc).
STH--13.5k
Students--4.5k
Guest tickets--2k
Misc/admin-- 118
The band has to be included in that student section figure, right?

clt says tickets at Charlotte vary by location, and if you purchased a seat license.
