Robinson doing stuff that the BOT normally does.

To me there are two OR’s. The great player from the early 80’s with the sweet jump shot. Then the OR today. Most of us at that age are different people than when we were in college. I celebrate one and denigrate the other.

Nah,

Ask the people he betrayed if they see two Oliver Robinson.

The 18 year old betrayed no one. I don’t condone anything the adult did, but it does not take away from he accomplishments of the college kid.

Remember that if you ever talk to someone from that area and explain that to them.

The same Robinson who made sure he ducked and dodged UAB supporters, and offered excuses to support the same school he went to, during the shutdown.

We'll continue to disagree, but that "brother" sold out his supporters for 30 pieces of tainted soil silver. I'll remember all the good his basketball history did when I'm riding through Finley and Hooper City on my way home.

So I guess we should hate the two year old Oliver too because of what he grew up to do. Your argument is stupid.

Great rebuttal 03-lmfao Is this the part where you throw further insults and call me a doodie brain or something.

Fact is, you can remember him as you like, but in this present day and time he is a man that sold out the people in this community that voted for him. That he campaigned for and asked for their votes.
I'll leave you with this. While you're in Memphis remembering him as he was, do you think the residents care about his banners as they suffer from asthma or skin irritations.

I bid you a blessed day.

I have been told there is a statue at the Saratoga (NY) Battlefield honoring a brave officer from that pivotal Revolutionary War battle won over British General Burgoyne who was forced to surrender. There is no name on that statue so one has to already know it is in honor of Benedict Arnold who later lost his hero status.

RE: Oliver Robinson
A man isn't meant to stand on a pedestal, you place statues and bust on pedestal. A man will tire, wobble faint or fall, like a solder who stand on parade for hours without ease he stiffens and fall. Its a hard lesson to learn, that's men aren't not infallible.
So put me down in the middle, I am disappointed, but I would have been disappointed in anyone who had done the same things he confessed to.
While I am disappointed I don't want to purge his preschool thru NBA accomplishments. He committed an act against the citizens of Alabama.
And not UAB

No, it just honors his leg:

Maybe we can commission a disembodied arm shooting a basketball.

Or two disembodied arms to convey the complete Oliver. One arm shooting a basketball, the other receiving a wad of cash

Let's put prison bars on his banner? That way we can still remember him past and present!

My feelings regarding the banner at Bartow arena make me sad and mad. Robinson has been quite successful after his days at UAB. I was always extremely proud of him as a player and also with him afterwards as an ambassador for our school. I viewed him as a role model for our community. Because of that reason I can not separate his basketball accomplishments and his more recent issues. The banner was earned in the past but it also carries a responsibility moving forward. Hopefully we all can learn something from this and just do what is right..

He was. It's only a hunch, just based on my infrequent interactions with him, but would not surprise me if something went wrong in his life over the past few years.

He had values. He forgot them.

RE: Oliver Robinson
I imagine that there are many people in North Birmingham whose opinions of Oliver were formed after his dirty political dealings came out. He put money in his pocket above their health, and more importantly, the health of their children.

It's the UAB fans who are most likely to have mixed emotions. They remember Oliver as the First Blazer, someone they had loved and respected who took dirty money and fell from grace.

As to the UAB fans in the affected area, I tend to think that the reasoning in the first paragraph outweighs any happy memories of Oliver on the court.

Unfortunately for Oliver Robinson, the image of him *in* court will be the biggest memory he leaves behind.

"Assistant U.S. Attorney George Martin, a workmanlike prosecutor who has argued some of the biggest corruption cases in Alabama in recent years, brought the point home to jurors in his closing statements.

Evidence revealed, he argued, a "shadow government" run by elites at the expense of the powerless.

It did. It does."

Feeble as it may be, he's found a smidge of redemption for being the prosecution's star witness. At least to me.

They don't get a Drummond pelt on the wall without him.

That was a flip to reduce his sentence. It goes in his favor, and you're right, no Drummond/Balch scalps without it... but it was not done out of virtue.
