Never got into any of them without a up to date passport, customs paperwork filled out, and providing my reason for wanting to be there.

When engineered right, border walls and fences work well. Look pre and post El Paso fence system. It is a much safer city now. The idea is to keep out and deport as many as possible, so they don't have the opportunity to commit these violent in the USA in the first place. IDC if it is 2 days from now or 2 decades. Prisons have walls also, and they work.

IMO, it's problem if those that perpetuate the crime shouldn't' be in the country in the first place. The fact that the crime occurred indicates a failure by the govt to protect its citizens.
