I get the "this is a business" mindset but lately they've done some really crappy stuff internally. They hired a SID for men's basketball and eliminated the position days before he was supposed to start. He quit his other job and moved to Birmingham.

Did this seriously happen? And the person hasn't said or did anything?

It did. I got a DM on twitter about it 2 days ago.

Since I'm sure he is still getting reports on what is said here, I'll just address him directly...
You know Ray, if you quit doing so much sketchy **** with your athletic department, you wouldn't have to pay so much to people to get them to sign an NDA.
I wonder how much cash the athletic department would have on hand if you were to add up the cost of all of the NDA's you have paid people off to sign. Get your bean counters to add that up for you and get back to us.

Vanderbilt does have an AD, his title is Vice Chancellor for Athletics.

You can't sue the State of Alabama, but if a private company did that you could probably sue and win for that

RE: Marla Townsend
A lot of micro managing from an AD whose department absolutely stinks. We are only good in football and women’s basketball. Time to clean house with everyone in the admin and coaches included.
There was a graphic on Twitter recently that showed us tied with Rice for least amount of championships won in the last 5 years across all sports in CUSA. That’s an absolute embarrassment.

Yes that did happen with the Sid.
I got the point, just my other alma mater (grad school). In all seriousness when you raise a red flag I take notice.

If true, they should be ashamed of themselves. Totally unprofessional.

You probably need to add some context to why some of those coaches are no longer with us. Quick look shows we have new coaches in place for golf, volleyball, and sand volleyball, and women's soccer had a new coach for last season.
Over the last four years.....
Volleyball was 39-85 for an overall win pct of 31.45%
Sand volleyball was 37-54 for a win pct of 40.66%
Soccer was 11-36-6 from '14-'17. We had a new coach this year and they went 13-4-3.
Golf....no record per se, but the best finish I could find over the last four years was 2nd out 9 teams in one tourney....most other tourneys we were bottom half.
Just my $.02, but I would say those four coaches are no longer with UAB due to their on field results as opposed to them signing a letter of support. Few posts above this one says we are tied w/ Rice for fewest CUSA championships over the last five years so I'm good with shaking things up for the sports above.

RE: Marla Townsend
Fact is that football had good attendance last season in great part because we got 45k out for opening day.
Fact is that we'll be very lucky to have half that many people in attendance this year on opening day.
I understand that there are viable reasons for coaching changes. I did not say a word except "Congrats" when Marla was eased out of the Softball HC position. Giving her an AAD slot and then dumping her, that's different. That's how you get rid of someone who is otherwise difficult to fire.
MB, you can accuse us of agendas and conspiracy theory all you want to, and continue to play apologist for Ingram. That does not mean that things are not moving in the background to weaken our athletic department. Getting rid of old time Blazers who are tremendously loyal to UAB is a feature, not a bug, when they "cut costs".
Our attendance numbers will be down for football. Some of that is the new wearing off, maybe. Some of it is sand being poured into the gears. They won't actively try to get rid of Coach Clark, they know that will blow up on them. What they *will* do is frustrate him, not give him what he wants, try to make him uncomfortable enough that he throws up his hands and moves on when if treated well he's willing to stay.
Schedule Alabama St. or Alabama A&M for the opener, on a Saturday, and you get good attendance. No brainer, proven by past games. Schedule Savannah freaking State on a Thursday night and you won't. It really does not require training in sports marketing to understand this. There is no reasonable explanation for this year's opener being who and when it is.
So you go on and poo-poo what's happening... but when we're back to fighting as we were in mid-season of 2014, know that people who swallowed their BS are part why we're there.
The reality is that we can't do a damn thing about Marla's being sacked other than squawk about it. Ingram is doing what Watts wants him to. Watts is doing what the BoT wants him to. The BoT is not as poisonous as it was, quite, but if you think that all is forgiven and the hatchet has been buried (other than in our back when a chance comes about), you're flat wrong. Espy and Fess are still on the BoT, and if you think they have turned over a new leaf you are dreaming.
