Exclamation UTSA to Share Alamodome With New Pro Team
San Antonio was just awarded the newest Alliance pro team. Apparently they will be playing in the dome. Im a little intrigued as I live close to ol San Antone. I may just have to catch a game and see if I like the goods.

Catch it while you can because this will be yet another failed league trying to find their niche next to the NFL. Stupid idea, as I really have no idea what the organizers think will make this one different from any of the others that tried and failed. Dumb people who need to learn the hard way.

At some point, someone is going to get one of these ideas right. This one seems to be set up well. TV contract with CBS. Top notch football experts running the show, etc.

I don't think they will. People like watching top tier talent. No other league will ever be that. I for one enjoy the break from football. Football overload for the last decade has really weakened my enthusiasm for it in recent years.

I think the more appropriate title for this thread would be "Alamodome will act as home field for new pro team". This has nothing to do with UTSA other than they play their home games there too, no "sharing" involved.

A spring/summer league could work in my opinion. It needs NFL branding though, similar to the NBA GLeague. Place the teams in cities like San Antonio, Albuquerque, Orlando, etc. Stay away from suburbs of NYC, etc. Undrafted rookies and marginal players could be on the teams. Have a NFL star signing autographs at each game.

clt is confused. UTSA is sharing a field with an AAC team?

Sounds problematic .

UTSA does not own the Alamodome thus cant share it with anyone.

24 years ago Henry Cisneros had the Alamo Dome built in the hopes that in building it they would come. For the most part they came and went almost as fast. It was even home to the Spurs for a while. I'm thinking that the only permanent resident is UTSA.

Your lack of entrepreneurial vision is astounding. A lof of people with your view said the same thing about the AFL back in the 1960's. And look what happened. 07-coffee3

There were 13 teams in the NFL in 1960. There are 32 now. That means the NFL has grown by 146% in the last 58 years. The US population in 1960 was about 180 million, and is now about 328 million, meaning the population has grown only about 82% in the same time. NFL attendance has not gone up in the last decade or more; it's remained steady at a little over 17 million/year. And it's not because the games are all selling out, because about 2/3 of the teams aren't. The market is saturated. It was the right time 6 decades ago, but it's too soon for another. Maybe we can have a coffee together after this fails. lol

I will bet you any amount of money you wish, any odds you wish, over the rest of time, that neither one of this league or the new XFL will ever catch on beyond the level of arena football, if they make it that far.

You point to the AFL in the 60s, what about:

AAFC(1946-1949)
AFL(1926)
AFL(1936-1937)
AFL(1940)
AFL-Arena Football(1987-2008)
AF2(2000-2009)
CFL(1965-1969)
FXFL(2014-2015)
IFL(1999-2000)
IPFL(1999-2001)
PSFL(1991)
UFL(2009-2012)
USFL(1983-1985)
WFL(1974-1975)
XFL(2001)

Did those leagues have an "astounding lack entrepreneurial vision" as well?

Okay buddy, sounds like you need to take a 5 minute breather.

Though, it is time for UTSA to consider exploring an on campus site option.

Any word on replacing current convocation Center, to any of the UTSA people out there?

I thought the Arena League came back a few years ago? I will watch CFL in the summer. It fills the void enough for me.

The Arena League did come back after a 1 year hiatus. It’s still going, albeit with 4 teams, all in the NE US.

You proffered one success story as proof that someone had an "astounding lack of entrepreneurial vision", I simply referenced fifteen examples of failure. Starting in the 1920s, there's been at least one failed football league in every decade but the 1950's.

So you can call me captain obvious as an attempt to deflect from your bad argument or you can make a better argument than "this one time a league went up against the NFL and succeeded, pay no mind to these fifteen other leagues!".
