RE: Bold Predictions for the 2018 C-USA Football Season
(06-22-2018 01:39 AM)XYZ Wrote:  UNT (9-1) and FAU (8-2) both go through the conference undefeated before meeting up in Denton. UNT, with CUSA’s best offense, wins a surprisingly low scoring game in OT. UNT finishes the season undefeated in conference and ranked Top 25 nationally. FAU’s offense struggles more than expected due to some inexperience on the OL but makes up for it with one of CUSA’s best defenses in years.

Marshall, UAB, and La Tech also have strong seasons but fall just short. WKU, Charlotte, UTEP, and Rice finish at the bottom of the conference.

Seth Littrell leaves to coach at Texas Tech after the season and UNT replaces him with Graham Harrell to keep continuity within the program. Kendall Briles is a finalist for the position but doesn’t get the job after Briles’ is unable to have similar success in Houston in 2018 without Singletary and FAU’s veteran OL from 2017.

Lane Kiffin leaves to coach Georgia Tech after the season. FAU replaces him with Greg Schiano.

FIU emerges as the perceived favorite for 2019 with UNT, La Tech, and Marshall also contending.

Plus, we are currently working on signing Littrell to a new contract, which should have a significant raise. I could see UNT paying him somewhere in the $1.5-$2 million range, and placing a huge buyout in the contract. Our AD was quoted as saying he wants to make sure Littrell is compensated at a level equal to our peer institutions, not just in C-USA, but among the top programs in the G5. If we can do that, Littrell would probably pass on lower P5 offers, and perhaps even some mid-P5 offers. We will see.

$1.5-2 million plus buyout is nothing to P5 teams. UH was pyaing Herman $3million a year with a $2.5 million buyout and he left.
Tech isnt UT but KK makes $3.5 million base plus incentives. He is a Tech alum, but he had no head coaching experience when hired.

Not saying guaranteed Littrell would leave for TT, but if he stayed it wouldn't be based on the money UNT paid

FT, I wouldn't exactly call that bold. That seems to be the sentiment among most Topper football fans. I am going the opposite and projecting 7 wins and an improved running game. Call me crazy but it could be just wishful thinking.

I said huge buyout. Right now, Littrell's buyout is $3.3 million. I could see that being somewhere between $5-7 million in the new contract. That wouldn't stop a major player like OU or Texas from taking him if they want him, but Texas Tech would probably at least look at other options. And remember, when they finally fire Kingsbury, they will be on the hook for some of his remaining salary. His current contract runs through 2020. Texas Tech just doesn't have the deep pockets like the top P5s.

Not saying you're wrong, but where have you seen anything saying the buyout is $3.3 million? Everything I've seen said 40% of remaining guaranteed contract with decreases every year. Example article showing $1.6 mm buyout http://footballscoop.com/news/buyout-inf...ie-strong/ (notice Frost was $3mm and is gone)

So if the buyout is $3.3mm, divided by the max buyout % of 40 (which is not the case right now), gives a remaining guaranteed contract of $8.25mm. I dont think thats the case. And if theres a 40% of remaining in the new contract, a $7mm buyout would mean $17.5 mm in guaranteed contract. Thats either a real long contract or doubling the salary

No agent would allow his client to sign a 3.3 million dollar buyout while only earning one million per year.

On a related note, Nevin Shapiro was seen in Boca Raton at the Calypso with Lane.

According to USA Today, back in 2016 Littrell's agent did.

That buyout is what the school would have to pay if firing the coach without cause, basically the guaranteed salary, not the buyout the coach/new school would be required to pay the school if the coach chooses to leave early. Littrell's max coach buyout was 40% if leaving after the 1st year of the contract. THAT'S the buyout if he leaves. So take 40% of that $3.3M

NTX is correct. If Littrell were to leave after this season, at 35% before Feb. 1, 2019, his buyout would be about $1.1-1.2 mil.

Apparently the economics that effect each Conference USA school and Group 5 program don't effect UNT like the rest of us. Must be the baseball money. UNT = Associate Member

If what saw on line is correct, UNT has about 10,000 more enrolled than Charlotte and is second in total enrollment in CUSA. I guess your declaration is unfounded as far as the size of the university. The part about being annoying is a personal preference.

Hopefully you’re right. That would make UTSA the front runner for the Access Bowl.

Rice will be undefeated and unscored upon in racing to the National Championship. Bold enough for you? Or did you want realistic also?

I have no idea how we will do this year. We have a new coach and a few grad transfers and a lot of Owl fans are putting a lot of stock into that. Ask me again at the end of September.
