ETSU golfers in the pros?
I've played golf since I was 14 years old (29 now) and Phil Mickelson has always been my favorite because I am a lefty. Since Phil has seemed to lose his mojo and is almost never in contention anymore I started thinking to myself who else could I root for? So I decided to Google "ETSU golfers in the pros." And that's when I came across this article for the first time.

https://www.foxsports.com/golf/usga/stor...ate-061715

Best ETSU story I have ever read and never knew about until now. I figured someone on here with more ETSU knowledge than myself would know of other current players that are former Bucs I could root for along with Rhys Davies and Seamus Power (who is playing great this weekend again). Thanks in advance.

Go to the thread "2017 Golf" for several posts about this subject, and earlier, the thread entitled "The Masters", where it was mentioned. Fred still gets asked about it all the time, and the story crops up in local media every once in a while, especially when Rory is doing well in one of the majors.

Finally...…..by using the search function on the JC Press site, and entering "McIlroy", several articles (as I alluded to above) appear. You may also want to peruse those. This story is well known by most Buc fans:

I have been keeping up with Seamus Power weekly. Hoping he can put together 4 rounds. Wouldn't be surprised by some top 10's soon

I have nothing but good thoughts for that kid. It was a damn shame what happened to his younger brother, who was perhaps even better than Rhys is, and was all set to join him here. Ben was one of the highest-ranked British high school golfers at the time.

Rhys is by all accounts a class young man, and he was a fine player for us, and chose to stay here with his "ETSU brothers" after Ben's death. He's always said good things about his time here. Here's to his doing well in the Open.

Rhys Enoch makes the cut at The Open with a score of +3 (T65) after 2 rounds, leader at -6.

Seamus Power is at the Barbasol Championship and T21 at -6, leader at -15 with the 2nd round suspended.

Rhys Enoch is not going to win the British Open.
After a nice 70 yesterday, he's blowing up today, at +4 after 13 holes so far - in what are probably more challenging conditions.

[edit: finished +5 on the day, 76. +7 for the tournament, currently tied for 68th, but that's not likely how the ordinal finish will be - but may be close. Lots of folks shooting over par today. That 'other' ETSU golfer, McIlroy, is currently sitting tied for 10th, 5 shots off the leaders.]

RE: ETSU golfers in the pros?
Don't know how many are keeping up with Seamus, but he has been on a roll lately. He struggled most of this season and was down to nearly 200th in the Fed Ex cup in early March after missing 8 of the first 9 cuts of the season. In the last 3 weeks, he has finished 6th, 5th, and today finished up the very competitive Wells Fargo Championship in the top 15. His ranking after today is projected to be around 101, giving him a little breathing room toward retaining his card.

RE: ETSU golfers in the pros?
Seamus has been playing great here lately and I hope he continues to keep it up. His top 15 last weekend put him inside the coveted top 125 in FedEx Cup points at 101st place. Maybe he has found something in his game recently to explain the recent great finishes. Would love to start putting him in my Draftkings lineups on a regular basis!

Rhys Enoch 4-over after 9 holes....

I believe he's the only ex-ETSU golfer in the U.S. Open, but not positive.

[update/edit: Rhys finished yesterday +7, tied for 143rd (out of 154). Yikes.]

Enoch shot -5 on Friday to get to +2 for the tournament. He made the cut and will play the weekend.

Sorry. Was too tired to get back online last night and give the report:

Enoch's "blistering" round yesterday

And he's -1 so far on the day, after 5 holes, to move up to a tie for 45th.

[Update: -2 after the front nine. Tied for 32nd.]

RE: ETSU golfers in the pros?
Interesting commentary:

Enoch's path yesterday vs. Patrick Reed's

After my previous update above, he bogeyed 10, and then either 11 or 12 (I think), and then maybe one more. Anyway, after 16, he's now +1 on the day; +3 for the tournament, tied for 65th. It's looking increasingly likely Rhys Enoch will *not* be U.S. Open champ this year.

[Update: ended even on the day, so +2 for the tournament.]
