That would satisfy everybody. (06-19-2018 09:43 AM)esposito Wrote: (06-15-2018 04:52 PM)Owl 69/70/75 Wrote: (06-15-2018 11:22 AM)illiniowl Wrote: Has Deggs interviewed or even applied? I'd rate him as the best of the "conventional wisdom" field but is there even mutual interest?
If Berkman's religious views were a problem, Deggs would be a complete non-starter. Otherwise he's a great coach and his kids love playing for him.
yeah, and why did that Wayne Graham guy take so long to get out of the JUCO's?
That's right, Rice can stand Christians. So much baggage with the followers.
Agreed. So much for tolerance. Getting pretty close to being done with Rice. Nothing against Bragga. I cannot get past Ms. Parker calling and threatening backlash. This most certainly played into the decision to pass Berkman by. Again I want Bragga to do well but if he's such a great coach why was he not hired away the previous 15 years at Tenn Tech?

Ok. Since I know Mayor Parker I thought I would correct the record. I am not going to repost and engage in debate with you Parker haters, but I want to correct the record.
First, you guys went ape s**t over a rumor that wasn't even true. She never called Joe. No one anywhere in this thread offered any proof to the contrary, just innuendo. She worked at Rice and regularly had contact with administrators, but those were not athletic administrators.
Second, she has ben a strong supporter of Rice baseball and after her term expired spent much of her time in the suites since she was not dragging her security detail around with her. I have seen her at well over 100 games and that is a lot for Rice fans particularly one with her schedule.
Third, lots of people at Rice thought Lance was a bad idea and toxic. Parker did not need to tell anyone about this as they already knew that his candidacy would badly divide the fan base no matter which way it turned out. People with no connection to Parker spoke out. They are Rice alumni, they are baseball fans. Should they be prevented from simply pointing out what Lance said?
Finally fourth, she and her allies had every reason to bring this objection forward if they wanted to. Gay people are not second class citizens anymore in spite of the views of religious people. I know that upsets some of you but the times have changed. Women are not required to stay in the kitchen and people who say sexist, racist or homophobic things will be held accountable for them. In my view they should. Just because some one claims to to be a pious person doesn't mean they are.
That said, I wish lance the best. I always thought this was a stupid place for Lance to coach. He needs to be at a religious school where he is free to express his views without backlash or reservation. At the end of the day, D1 coaching experience was the most important negative he could not overcome. He should get some if he really wants to be a head coach because that would be a problem even at Baylor or Dallas Baptist.

Thanks for clearing that up re: Mayor Parker.
I will quibble with your generalization about religious people - you really are talking about social conservative Christians. There are plenty of devout people who come to very different conclusions on these issues.
Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if JK did not want to hire Lance for many reasons and the HERO situation made it harder for him because it has led people to assume his opposition to HERO was the reason.

I suspect we'll find out at tomorrow's press conference.

Didn't happen ... at least not during the video-streamed portion of the news conference.
