I can guarantee you that The OP knows what's up. He's got a good relationship with the band program at UAB.

I'm sure Doc Murray can call up Coach Clark & get to use the practice field(s) whenever available.

Not to mention as soon as you start letting that facility be used by other programs/groups...it starts to drift into being a general facility. We need it to stay football's. That's my opinion, anyway.

It sucks but they'll figure out a way to deal with it. I'm kinda tired of the band getting the brown end of the stick, though.

But all the changes to the fields will ultimately result in fields that will only be used by the band....or am I wrong about that?

That's what I thought as well.

Agreed,

They have camps schedule all throughout the summer any way along with "volunteer" workouts.

It just sucks that someone, not naming names, just forgot about the band. It's really inexcusable.

Especially since when the facility was first announced they specifically stated the turf "infield" would be used as a practice area for the band.

shouldn't someone in the music department have been on top of it and making sure they had a plan before that stuff was done? don't expect people to look out for you, look out for yourself.

and in terms of using the football facility, there's a difference between allowing the band to use it to practice for marching at football games and opening it up for a spring concert. it's not an unreasonable expected use of the thing

If the band ultimately will receive a place to practice out of this (I'm guessing) isn't it worth the temporary pain for the gain?

They hopefully can rotate between softball field, baseball field, soccer field, green space, Bartow arena and maybe even Region's. But they should benefit down the road. It's so hot inside might be better on some days.

No, as of right now there is no plan. That’s why I brought it up to shine some light on a fire problem.

No plan for temporary or no plan for permanent or both?

What is the time and space needed for band practice on a daily basis? The FB team does not use its fields 24/7 so one would think a schedule could be worked out to accommodate both group's needs.

They will have a place to practice. I don’t know why this is even worth discussing.

Because it’s the off season and there are only two things to do.

1. Attack each other, which leads you open to banishment
2. Attack the UAB athletic department, which these days makes you a good fan in some eyes.

Was just thinking about this when I saw recent pictures. The AD talked up Marching Blazers rehearsal space and said the field part would be schedule for use around the Marching Blazers needs/rehearsal schedule.

Clearly something changed.

Band doesn't just happen. One day people will learn. /rant
