What evidence was there that the northern schools got their fans to show up in Baltimore? Heck some of those schools can't draw flies in their own gyms...much less take a crowd on the road.
I understand the desire to have a more central location....but not at the expense of holding the conference's national showcase in a gym that's smaller than Trask in what is for now a part of a city that not many people will be genteely strolling around anytime soon.

His comment about attendance, while a bit silly on the surface, does have some merit. However, it can only be a viable option if a bunch of tickets are sold. So from that standpoint he sounds ridiculous.
Rotating between N Charleston/Raleigh?;Richmond; DC/Baltimore still makes the most sense. Baltimore/DC makes most sense. Richmond is fine too. Giving the southern teams who have the highest support a rotation with North Charleston/Raleigh etc is fine too. The 3 location rotation has always made too much sense. I agree dont go further north than Baltimore due to lack of attendance, however centrally located has benefits.
A rotation might be fair, but it runs the risk of bad timing. For example, there could be a Northeastern vs. Hofstra Final in North Charleston followed by a UNC Wilmington vs. Charleston Final in DC/Baltimore.

UNCW/Charleston would draw better in DC than Hofstra/Northeastern in DC. The only teams that would draw better are JMU and William and Mary in DC.
With our out of state appeal being more northern than southern, do yall think UNCW may find DC for appealing that Charleston as a location, small arena not withstanding?

No. Can't imagine. Charleston was very convenient, hotels close proximity etc...
I would prefer Richmond over the DC option. DC is ok if we had a suitable arena, We really need to cut loose NE and Hofstra and add more Southern or Mid Atlantic options

Nobody needs to be cutting anyone loose. Over time there may well be realignment, but until then we hang together or we hang separately. And I get it that there are problems with having the tournament at the far south end of the geographic footprint of the conference.
But holy cow, a 4000 seat arena in the diciest area of DC, played on a TV network that nobody watches, is moving in a bush league direction.

That's our only option when we elect to have the tournament in a place that doesn't care about mid-major basketball. We can't have the tournament up north AND get a quality arena. It just won't happen.
Baltimore was about the best one could hope for. This is a clear step down from that.

The building and concessions at Bojangle's Coliseum are fine. The parking lot is too small if an event draws a big crowd. There were satellite lots that were used for overflow parking that are now used by a megachurch.
Charlotte is not looking to host any events in early March. Charlotte hosts the CIAA Tournament and it starts in Bojangle's, but finishes in the Spectrum. That event sends the Hornets and the Checkers out of town for a week. Hosting the CAA Tournament the next week would mean a longer banishment for those teams.
If the CIAA Tournament left Charlotte for a few years, the CAA could sneak in and hold its Tournament here. I've been to many events at Bojangle's and worked in a concession stand there, too. The layout is different than North Charleston, but it has a retro look and feel.
Unlike the North Charleston Coliseum, there are not many hotels nearby. The downtown hotels are 2-3 miles away, but a superhighway connects downtown to Bojangle's.
I think we are all in agreement this place is not desirable. As I stated DC has always made a ton of sense. The problem is lack of appropriate sized arenas. That is what allowed Baltimore to be an option. Baltimore is fine. Richmond is fine. Raleigh/Charlotte/N. Charleston is fine. We all agree going any further north than Baltimore is a bad idea. Rotating is the only logical thing to do if you want it at a neutral location.
As far as timing of who is good and not. That is just too bad. Those cards will fall however they fall. If you are only worried about who is good in a given year as to who is hosting, just cut the bs and go to the top seed hosting or all higher ranked teams hosting. I still like the idea of the semis'finals being at a neutral location and have the early 2 rounds at higher seeds. But to do that you need a good tv deal to showcase the semis and finals for the betterment of the conference. We certainly do not have that.
The only arena in the Triangle, Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, that could host the CAA Tournament is the PNC Arena, where NC State and the Hurricanes play. It's a great venue, but is located next to State's Carter-Finley Stadium and is surrounded by parking lots. It's 18,000 seats for hockey, more for hoops.
Attendance would be increased if the championship could be moved to Sunday afternoon or Saturday might. ESPN demanded lesser conferences move to Monday when the big conferences dominated the last Sunday of the regular season, but the big schools avoid that Sunday now.
Agreed about changing to the semis and finals on the weekend. Also on the JMU board was brought up about Reynold's Coliseum. Obviously the folks here at UNCW wouldnt be interested in anything NC State related but its a 6000 seat arena used strictly by NC State Women's team (and other minor sports). Seems like that could be a decent venue if looking at Raleigh as a host location. May be on the slightly small side, but is probably about right currently. 6-8K seems appropriate. It is a legit basketball arena so you would have the basketball feel to it as opposed to these multi-sport complexes that dont always work nicely for basketball.

PNC is nice for hoops, i've been to plenty of games there, it's just big
