There's not much fun in being a Rice athletics fan anymore.

Preach on brother FBO.

RE: 2018-19 Men's Basketball Roster
We've spent 50 years driving away revenues. There's not enough money left to run a program.

That's not Joe's fault or Chris's or David's or Wayne's. The forces were set in motion long before them. It's like trying to hold back the lava from that volcano in Hawaii. Intercollegiate athletics have passed us by. If Bloomgren can turn football around in 2 years or less, there may be some hope. Otherwise it's D-3.

Kind of amusing, we've lost 23 transfers/departures in our last four classes. 5.75 players per class!!! That's probably a nearly unheard of run in college basketball.

12 guards, 11 bigs, so at least we're equal opportunity.

I love college basketball and watching young athletes develop over a 4-year period is one of the great joys in my life as a fan and supporter of Rice Athletics. Seeing a player develop and become a dominant player like a Robert Johnson or a Michael Harris is a great thrill. Even observing a player with a more limited skill set that maximized his ability, developed a great understanding of the game and how he could contribute to winning like T.J. Armstrong was a great deal of fun. The litany of transfers from the program really limits that opportunity and I am greatly saddened. I really wanted to watch Naaj and Malik become two anchors for real improvement in Rice men's hoops.

Saw that NCAA no longer requires blessing by the school/coach of where an athlete transfers. The freeagentization of the NCAA has now been completed. Guess it all makes sense in a world where loyalty is only to one's self on a minute to minute basis.

Eh, I really don’t think that rule will change much. I mean let’s be honest, schools almost never say “No you can’t transfer.” Instead, they say “No, you can’t transfer to X school.” That won’t happen anymore.

Have there been any rumors about who Pera is interviewing to replace Omar Mance? Less controversial of a coaching hire then baseball! Would be nice if Coach Pera would interview Tamir Jackson.

I have NO inside info on this but it wouldn't surprise me if Rhett Bonner is promoted to the assistant role.

Meyer has transferred to Oklahoma State as a walk-on.

I will never, never understand why a guy like Meyer would give up a scholarship at a Top 20 school to go as a walk-on to a second-tier state school.

I mean at least Lester decided to go to a peer institution.

Normally I would agree, but he did go to high school in Oklahoma, so perhaps there are family reasons to move closer to home?

Four if you count Parrish who was enrolled at Rice but sat out.

I hope JK is having long conversations with each player transferring out about their reasons for transferring to help JK assess the program moving forward and whether Pera is the right guy to stick with.

I saw that the team is going on a 10-day trip to Spain to start the season. Will we even have enough players to field a team?

Yeah, freshman arrive in the next week or two.

I think we have 11 scholarship guys and probably a few walk-ons.

Maybe it's a recruiting trip now?

Every trip should be a recruiting trip.
