Mohamed Rashada - the day McCollum thought it was a smart thing to offer him a football scholarship, so many bad plays... but the first loss to FAU is on him.

1966 for Western and it probably changed history in basketball and for another CUSA program....UTEP

uk would not have made it to the F4 much less the championship game against UTEP. Western played the same style as UTEP and would have ran uk off the floor.

"WKU was playing for a shot at Kentucky and a chance at the Final Four. WKU led 79-78 when a jump ball was called between WKU's Greg Smith and Michigan's Cazzie Russell. On the jump Smith was called for a foul when he jumped into Russell. WKU fans feel to this day that the referee did not throw the ball straight up between the two players, throwing it up more towards Russell, causing Smith's jump. Russell went to the line and sank two free throws to give Michigan the win"

the play is at 8:48 of the video

This hose job. Clock should've started earlier, negating the bucket, and sending Charlotte to the title game (which we probably win).

and for 2nd place "possibly" would be our basketball following the Tyndall scandal starting with the 2014-15 season and going through the 2017-18 season that included 3 losses to SWAC member Jackson St (1 at home and twice at their place), a home loss to NAIA William Carey, and 2 losses at Florida St where we lost by 39+ both times (98-49 and 98-45)

RE: Worst moment in your athletic history
NT decision to go down to 1AA without any attempt to remain in D1 was without a doubt the worst thing to ever happen in NT athletics.

This was in 1982 and has plagued NT ever since. NT went from a period with three straight first round NFL draft picks and a very successful too short Hayden Fry era to almost total irrelevance as a 1aa team. Although NT returned to D1 in 1995, it is just now IMO recovering from that almost fatal athletic decision.

No one loss or bad season in any sport can come close.

UAB killing football. Although that may have turned into the best moment in the long run.

There's also the whole BoT not agreeing to hire Jimbo.

It's been a long and drawn out death for Rice.

The Monarchs' last second loss to Butler on a tip-in in the second round of the 2011 NCAA tournament has to rank right up there. Butler went on to the final four.

Yes, there is the obvious, and behind that would be the Doc Holiday era.

1. DH is responsible for the worst debacle (wvu at home in 2010) in Marshall sports history, among countless other debacles (like opting for field goals in OT against VT in a rain storm).
2. DH is responsible for not one, but the top TWO worst HOME blowout losses in Edward's stadium history (against UCF & WKU).
3. DH is THE most fraudulent recruiter in MU history and probably all of college football. 3 of his top 5 recruits each year NEVER see the field (and he knows that ahead of time). 5 of his top 10 NEVER see the field. And it shows. Out talented to the tune of 3-9 2 years ago and even last year in a poor conference. His one and only redeemable value was that he was this "great recruiter". He produces very little NFL talent and regularly get's out recruited when all said and done in one of the worst conferences in college football.
4. DH regular season records through the years; 5-7, 6-6, 5-7, 3-9, 7-5 and then had 3 10 win season when conference got gutted, combined with ultra conservative play calling led to the BIGGEST EXODUS of Marshall football fans in program history. Last year's home attendance hit a 20 year or more low.
5. Went 3-9 just 2 years ago in THE worst conference in I-A college football.
6. In almost 40 YEARS of coaching Has NEVER been offered a Head Coaching job at ANY LEVEL other than at Marshall.
7. Imagine your team regularly punting on your opponent's 38, imagine never seeing a trick play (or even motion), imagine other coaches saying how simplistic your offense is, imagine running clock on a slim lead beginning of 3rd quarter (so you can get off field and go to bed), imagine having a head football coach who acts like he hates playing the game. That is what Marshall fans have seen for 8 years now.
8. DH's Record against teams with a pulse is utterly abysmal. After 8 years in the game, and after a 3-6 campaign, STILL could not beat one team in regular season with a winning record last year.

That was #1 for me. I was there and it was absolutely deflating.

A fairly close second is 4th and 29.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

I'd put 4th-and-29 third behind Butler and this:

Sept 19th, 2008. 28-7 home loss to Central Arkansas. That was when it began sinking in that we were staring down a winless season.
