Next year isn’t returning as much as I assumed. I’m not as connected as some of you, but losing Royalty, Jeffers and Berne really stings. Cota to, but I assumed his departure.

I’m with ya. Staff, I’m sure will be working hard for some last minute replacements if possible. I’m sure they were more in the know than the rest of us on draft projections and pre-draft contract conversations.

I'm pretty confident OF Riley Zayicek got a medical redshirt.

The JUCO route always provides dividends for us. Mason Berne, Kep Brown, Logan Beehler, Austin Warren, Kennard McDowell, Zach Shields....all of those guys in recent years came from JUCO's. It's a great source of instant offense and occasionally some solid pitching. We should be just fine.

This is just the byproduct of being a powerhouse program. You lose guys as juniors. You lose guys before they even come to campus. Personally, I'm happy to see a guy depart as a junior to get his payday. All that does is sends a message across the state that this is a great place to come if you have pro aspirations.

Our recruiting classes have been getting better and better each year as a result.

Kep Brown wasn't taken today, so I would of course expect him to be back. He was at one time considered a 1st-round prospect, so all he needs is a monster season next year to put himself back on the draft radar in a big way.

On top of that Greenville is a baseball town at the youth level. We don't have that in hoops yet for our branding, still to many Duke and UNC fans in the mix, at some point we have to give them something to cheer about.

It's all connected. What else is there to do in Greenville besides attend sporting events if you're a student? That becomes their college experience and it ties them together when they graduate.

Well the beach isn't that far and plenty of people know people with beach places if they don't have one themselves.

I can't speak to Greenville vs Wilmington now for college kids. But in the 90s/early 00s there was a lot more to in Greenville for 18-25 than Wilmington. Sports are only part of the equation, it's a much bigger student body, that's going to lead to more options. I lived in Wilmington briefly, I would move back, but it felt like a dispersed scene. ECU is altogether. What do college kids really do other than party, play pickup hoops, and hangout anyway?

While I am n=1, I find this to be true as a current student. The only additional thing Wilmington has to offer than anywhere else is the beach; college kids do the same things just about everywhere.

The beach is a big draw, that’s a huge reason why my wife went there. I’d move back to Wilmington in a second but I wouldn’t move to Greenville if my company offered to pay me triple my salary

Yeah I don't buy that for a second. If you live in RTP, not like you live in some exotic spot, you live in a solid B city. I live in Raleigh, it's cool. Nothing extraordinary about it though. It's getting better, as are most places in NC.

Exotic compared to what? Fayetville is exotic compared to Greenville. LOL
I lived in Wilmington for a solid 8 years, unfortunately the job market isn't great thus the reason why i moved to RTP. Triangle is more than just a B city, it's a great place to live. Thus the reason it's growing rapidly, and major companies like Apple and Amazon are looking to get in.

No one moves from an elite city to come to Raleigh unless it's due to cost of living. I like the place and think it's better than most places out there. But it isn't a NY, SF, Miami, DC, SD, LA, etc. Best quote I ever heard about Raleigh is "it's a great place to live and a terrible place to visit."

Jeffers Named Google Cloud Academic All America

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW junior Ryan Jeffers, who was selected in the second round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Monday, has been named third-team Google Cloud Academic All-America.

Jeffers is the sixth Seahawk to earn Academic All-America honors and the first since 2013 when Michael Bass and Ryan LaGrange were voted to the second-team.

While at UNCW, Jeffers compiled a 3.64 grade point average while majoring in Physics.

On the field, Jeffers hit .315 and led the Colonial Athletic Association with 22 doubles and 16 home runs. He also paced the circuit in on base average (.460) and slugging percentage (.635).

Jeffers was selected with the 59th pick overall in the draft, becoming the second highest selection from the Seahawk baseball program.

1986 Calvin Garrett (2nd Team)
