Perhaps a deterrent is it's a site that requires you to create an account and login. Not quite as easy as other internet fan-based voting things in the past.

Absolutely pathetic.

Shared it tagging 40 or so of my closest friends that I graduated with so Ive done my part. Maybe the school should promote this all over campus and media in lieu of those cheesy ass empty achievements.

Really starting to think no one GIVES A.F. about ODU once they graduate. Definitely not in terms of supporting their athletes and this isnt even a donation request.

Students aren't taught to love the university. They aren't taught to support the university. The university itself doesn't instill institutional pride. It comes from the university leadership. Cultures are created - they don't just happen. In that regard, our students are taught to do Ice Cream and Cake and that's about it. When you don't have a strong bond or connection to the school - you don't give financially to the school. It's all about the culture created and ODU has always been lacking in this regard. One of the best VA schools at this is VT. Their students are taught cheers and chants. They are taught to go to games and support their teams. They are taught to wear VT gear. They are taught to love their school and it shows by their student and alumni support. That hasn't always been the case for VT in decades past. Again, culture is created with intent and VT has focused a ton on this and are reaping the rewards.

And also, Virginia Tech is a residential campus where students are going to take more ownership of the extracurriculars like athletics because campus life is such a huge part of their experience. ODU is trying to become more residential but still, 3 out of every 4 students live off-campus. Getting students to buy in to a strong campus life is always going to be more of a struggle at commuter schools than it is at more traditional schools.

RE: ODU - The Tournament 2018
Even with all that, I'm not sure something like this is the proxy for ODU's school spirit. I mean, I understand why VCU does so well to support their alumni in TBT every year and slightly admire it.

But then I read the bashing of ODU celebrating its meaningless win total on one thread and wonder how ODU promotion of something like this is ANY more meaningful. But that's just me.

I'd love to see Frank the Tank make another run with a blue uniform on, but adding WyKevin just because his brother played here? It's a nice thing and all but I'd be shocked if most ODU alumni really give a rip.

Let's get basketball back to the tournament, win some to build modern enthusiasm, and stuff like this will just blossom because fans will miss it more. But right now? I give em a vote, move on and hope they make it with little to no emotional attachment to the idea.

No clue. But they got a tough match-up against UMBC, who have a few of the guys from the team that made history against UVA.

They give out at-large bids. Based on what, I have no clue. But ODU got one.

RE: ODU - The Tournament 2018
Here's what they say on their site;

Quote:How does TBT pick the at-large teams in each region?

We tend to pick the most interesting/notable players, best stories, or people who have played TBT before that we know and respect.

How do you seed the teams?

Talent, chemistry, leadership and reliability; i.e. how good we think the team is.

For anyone going blind trying to find where ODU is, we are the #8 seed in the bottom left bracket (Richmond) [Edit: got the seed wrong. I had ONE JOB!]

Oh yeah and finals games are on ESPN. First year was 1 million pot, last year was 2 million.

RamNation went to the semi finals or finals last year so I'd love for us to have a good showing.

Gotta beat them but looks like we would have to win a few to see them.
