Country Star Jake Owen will be in concert at Regions Field on the same night as the UAB opener. Attendance for the game is going to be even worse than I thought.

I absolutely hate everything about this. This kills the chances of me coming since it's a cross country trip. Not a whole lot of fun when you have 1/10th of the college buddies you were hoping to see actually at the opening tailgate because they have to work like normal people. I feel like we are going from maybe cracking 40K on a Saturday to being extremely grateful to have 8K on a Thursday.

Samford also plays a home game on Thursday night. That is another in town conflict for football fans.

Either we have enough UAB fans to support a football program or we don't. This thread makes it sound like most believe we don't.

While I like Samford, I don't believe 1200 fans going to their game would have gone to the UAB game instead.

Looks like we have even less fans to support a basketball program.

I will be there. And I will be nude, if that's what it takes to boost attendance.

It’s a crappy game at a crappy time. Conspiracy or not, if the administration wanted a successful attendance number, this game would have never been scheduled, and it sure as hell wouldn’t have been put on a Thursday night. That being said, I’ll be there. But this is not going to be a well attended game.

Do you seriously not think that attendance will be 1/4 to 1/3 of what it would have been on a Saturday? It's not a question of "having fans", it's a question of fans having jobs, kids, or not living in town.

I think we'll be lucky to break 10k, and we're going to catch hell about it from the local media and bammers.

Yep. I have to take two days off to attend this game. That said as a fan base we need to look for reasons to go instead of reasons not to go. If you really want to do something bad enough you will find a way to do it. People have plenty of time to request a day off or half a day.

Oh, we'll go... but we're also among the 3.5k who virtually always attend the basketball games. There are a lot of ordinary fans who are not that hard core. They'll go pretty routinely, but when it starts to require taking precious vacation days to attend the Savannah freakin' State game, maybe not so much.

I have some Alabama friends, okay don't get snarky, some of you have them too. Anyway my Alabama friends are employed and make a modest income placing them in that middle class status, whatever that is anymore..well my friends are driving from Birmingham to Orlando..I asked why. I honestly didn't know. They said they took time off to see Alabama play Louisville...I don't know what they say about us UAB fans..maybe we aren't as passionate, but time is not always a excuse..money yes, time no..just my opinion.
I know sometimes plans needs to be made and sometimes changed. But, time is free to all to use the way you want.

We haven't reached cult status yet, and I'm good with that.

Every major college campus with cult like following are doing well.
It might not hurt some of us to drink the Green and Gold Kool Aid.

Alabama and Auburn were not born as "cult programs" in the 1890s. They have achieved that status after a century of play - and more than a few seasons along the way that they would like to forget (like the 20 straight losses by Bama in the 1950s). Maybe UAB will have the same status in 2100 at the same age.

Right now our main concern is weather for our Thursday night - school night - game with that Wednesday night "monsoon game" still fresh in our memory.

I know I am in the minority here, but I like Thursday night games. It frees up my Saturday, when I will most likely have soccer and softball games.

If no kids games, may be able to fit in a quick beach trip.

People just keep making excuses. I've talked to a few non UAB fans that are going to attend the game BECAUSE it is on Thursday instead of Saturday.
