We should never, ever schedule a game out of conference with a team whose RPI averages in the 250+ range over the past 3-4 years. Our RPI can't absorb the loss with those games factored in.

This is my opinion as well.

Last year we played 282,350,239, and 349 OOC
The year before 345,351, and 320
The year before 264, 293, 309, 287, 324

I didn’t even include teams like Stephen f Austin and Chattanooga that just appeared to have one off years when we played. We are immediately putting ourselves so far behind when we have 3-5 of these games a year. We can do better, and we should expect better.

Totally agree, this has made UAB a low major now. This also made the players soft and gave them an over inflated egos.

Can we bring back Chris Giles now?

It’s not a dead horse when the coaches have a chance to change the narrative but refuse.

Refused is the wrong word. The lack of comprehension by the clueless fans is the narrative that needs to be changed

That it takes two teams to agree to a schedule. That pointing to one team that put together a decent schedule ignores the 100s who don't. That UAB with one starter returning off of a middle of the pack team is not exactly a big draw. That blaming the current coaches for a scheduling strategy that dates back to Gene Barrow means there must be more to the story than "our coaches refused"

RE: Mercer and Alcorn State added to schedule.
MB is correct all though getting to the delivery is less desirable. I could waste my time in going into detail why he is correct but......

Just speaking out loud. Maybe if we actually showed up to games instead of constantly complaining it would at least help put us in a better position to schedule SOME better games at times? Before someone says we show up for better opponents, yea to an extent but even those games are quite frankly embarrassing attendance wise. I guess it's more fun to add to the problem and complain?

Oh and in case no one has noticed, if you are not in a power league you are a mid major now. They did that one right in front of your face and the Sheeple rejoiced.

RE: Mercer and Alcorn State added to schedule.
I’m not driving an hour and a half two ways to see UAB play Alcorn State. Call me a crappy fan if you want.

MTSU played zero swac teams last year
WKU played zero swac teams
ODU played zero swac teams
Marshall played one swac team
UTSA played zero swac teams
La tech played two
Southern miss played one
North Texas played one
Charlotte played none

I can’t buy that all these teams can pull this off, many in a similar region to us, and we can’t. At this point I’m not even looking for top 100 games, but I’d take an in season home and home with a top 150 school over a SWAC school we know is guaranteed to be 250+.

All of us mid majors have trouble finding games, but none of us will work together to help solve the issue?

+1

Not dropping a dime to see young harris, miles, or hiwaase. Or swac games that don't involve tx southern.

They typically do if they're name brand or power 5. Someone like Memphis or a P5 team will bring in 1,689 extra fans.

Not to divulge this into yet another attendance thread but UAB's baseline attendance is 4,239 for each game. From that baseline, the primary way that the number of butts in seats drops is whether or not the team is good. If UAB has a KenPom rating of 100 then ~615 people decide to stay home. I've got a full on nerd out of the data that I'm waiting to post once the full schedule comes out.

The baseline is an unacceptable number. Quite frankly it’s embarrassing.

no students, low game average in attendance.

Students only showed for a couple of games last year. the rest of the time, it was just the hardcore old timer boosters, some corporate freebies and some walk ups.

the student section is an embarrassment.

No need to blame just the students for poor attendance. The rest of the building has been pretty empty. It seems that students show up more on weekday games. Non-students show up more on the weekend. We need to work at getting both sets to show up regardless of the day of the week.

I'm not. I attended every home game except Lemoyne-Owen.

There are about 2500-3000 core fans and that was about the average attendance. Some games I studied the student sections and couldn't count 100 people outside the band. No need to deny fact.

The old people can't carry the program and make the noise that the students can.
Its a whole different atmosphere when the students turn out.
