RE: Chuck Landon: C-USA making big moves in hoops
If college sports is not to continue its present caste system where a relative few teams win all sports championships, a new method of dividing up sports revenue must be found. As it works right now, the same wealthy programs and their conferences get most of the sports revenue every year. One example is that the few million dollar bowl games pay out to the same few teams and their conferences every year so the rich get richer by large measures. There have been 36 FBNC game slots since 2000. How many different teams have played in those 36 slots?

NCAA tourney selection is a moving target. It changes, if only slightly, each and every year. Typically, the P5+ conferences benefit. While I applaud the idea of doing something, I fear it won't really matter. There will be some metric that the tourney selection committee can point to and deny quality G5 teams. It wasn't too long ago that Monmouth(?) played a very tough OOC schedule, won many of the games, and was not selected with the tourney selection committee indicating they didn't win enough of them. They seem to ignore the P5 teams that get 18+ chances to win conference games against teams the tourney selection commitee deem as suitable while most G5 schools are very lucky to have 5 opportunities.

i think the 3 sub-200 losses is what kept Monmouth out

Midmajors need to bring 6 teams to neutral site like BJCC for 3 games in 3 days based on RPI.. Play the games in the middle of February. The committee has manipulated RPI in a way to determine quality wins already. Do it regionally to reduce travel. It's an expanded version of Bracket Busters. This would guarantee quality wins for midmajors late in the season. It would make committee take notice.

Everybody is coming up with schemes on how to beat them with their system. That isn't the answer long term. Because their system will always win out. Either get them to change their system, or quit playing their system.

Westerns "fear" is that if Monmouth had not lost those 3 sub-200 games, the authorities would have found some other reason to keep them out. Those losses only made their discrimination a lot easier.
The "who" a team plays is public record. Now what about the teams who refuse to play a G5 power team? Unless it is leaked to Wikileaks, no one knows how many P5 powers have refused overtures from the likes of Boise State, UCF, etc. in football or Gonzaga, Butler, etc. in basketball.

I hate having to play those games. But when the MTSUs get the shaft year after year play the game.

Gonzaga and butler play big games ooc yearly. Home-away-neutral site.

MTSU has a questionable resume on paper by the end of last year.

They would have been in without those losses. BNB: Unless the committee stated that as their reason for rejection, it is just L-Ds opinion as to their decision. Concerns are still valid.

Butler played UAB at Bartow. When have they (or Gonzaga) played at AU or UA? Does anyone honestly believe Boise State never approached the two for a game?

Why would they want to play Alabama or auburn? That doesn’t even make sense.

He only thinks in terms of football. The mention of Boise State shows he doesn't have a clue what sport we are talking about. Even when he knows it's basketball, he tries to turn it to football

Actually it would give losses to 3 teams that were borderline for an NCAA bid

Conference USA basketball is trying the most innovative schedule system in college sports. Here’s how to do it in football, too.

I’m sure if we go undefeated we will be on the bubble. We should try that.

Beats doing nothing. Hopefully for the 5 teams in the upper group (is there a name for the groups yet) attendance will peak for those last 4 games.

Because AU and UA are tournament teams now, and have invested in basketball.
