Congrats! Robinson committed to ODU.

Glad ODU got the commitment. As the saying goes ... you can't teach height.

Just ask Anton Larsen and Sam Harris!

What was their rating out of high school?

At what point does a high school rating cease to be relevant?

My point was this guy has nothing in common with Anton and Sam except they are tall people who played basketball.

Based on odu’s history with 7 footers and his total lack of production/ability to stay healthy at LSU, I won’t hold my breath for him to replace porter AND Stith.

I remember when Kah was our savior and look how that turned out.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Much like with Jeff jones, I’d LOVE to be wrong but I highly doubt I will be.

I don't think that anyone else is going to be holding their breath expecting him to replace both Porter and Brandan either. Given the circumstances of ODU being a team without a center less than five months before practice starts, I think the kid is worth taking a chance on.

Yes. There is a difference between being optimistic, hopeful, and being satisfied, relieved, especially when we have nothing else in the frontcourt . It's not everyday when ODU lands a 4 star 7 footer.

Like Austin Colbert. Not a 7' footer, but a 4* big.

This is definitely wait and see matter, but if you're Jones, you don't take a shot on this one? I certainly would. We had the scholarships open and we can even add one more. If he lives up to the hype, we have an NCAA caliber team. If he doesn't, it will just be another bust transfer. Either way, the outcome will fall on Jeff Jones.

I don't have an issue with giving him a scholarship, considering we had 2 or 3 to give, and it seems highly unlikely that we will need all of them. My snark is more aimed at those claiming that we got our guy, or asking what "the naysayers" are going to do now. This is a big fat giant wait and see for a number of reasons.

It's irrelevant to me now, other than as a point of reference that at one time he had the goods. To me, this is all about him. There's a fabulous opportunity here to show his skills if he puts in the work and, yes, shows some leadership qualities. When's he come to campus? What's his offseason workout regimen going to be? Will he follow it diligently? Can they hook him up with someone like Trey Freeman? Can he work with ODU strength and conditioning? How hungry is he to prove himself?

Those are the questions I'd like to get answers to, and they'll tell a lot about this season's prospects.

My point is that we have no idea whether or not he has a lot in common with Anton and Sam. So far, he has production in common with them.

I think there is one more big question. Can JJ figure out how to deal with a 7'1" center and actually be willing to play him.

What is different about playing him vs. a 6-10 Trey Porter?

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018
I found this from two LSU fans on reddit.

LSU fan #1: "Zero athleticism or basketball talent from what I saw in his time here but he is a former highly rated 4 star and lost a crazy amount of weight after high school so he must be a hard worker. I wish him luck!"

LSU fan #2: "Don't expect much. Needs a slow pace team. Which really questions why Johnny Jones recruited him. Brings size but not much else"

Safe to say getting another big man would be good. Sounds like this guy is a low floor / high ceiling type pick.

This guy does not seem nearly as mobile.

Sounds good, dude. I'm still not really sure how that or Razor's comment has much to do with anything that what we've all been already saying - wait and see.

It's a debatable point, for sure. I'm not too worried about that. He figured out how to use Porter down low. At this point, I don't think he'd bring him in if he wasn't planning to use him, assuming he does what he's supposed to do. Yeah, there's Kah. Granted. IMO, without seeing who improves how much, we have no one other than the frosh. How good is Reece?

Robinson has to do is defend and rebound the ball like a monster and that's a big need for us this season. And with his size if he gets other teams into early foul trouble by getting him the ball against a 6'8 or smaller SF or "Center" that's awesome. It's not a bad thing. If that's all he does that's 1 piece to the puzzle. I'm not expecting him to come in and be a Sr year Frank Hassel.

Maybe he can come in and be like the big guy that Charlotte had a few years ago. That guy wasn't real fast, but he was big, could grab some rebounds, and was tough to defend inside due to his size and shooting touch. I think his name was Uchebo or something like that.

Under the circumstances, with no one else to replace Porter, I am very pleased with this development. At best, he develops to his potential and becomes a real factor, assuming JJ figures out how to use him. At worst, we are in the same situation we are in now. It is not as if we are passing up other players.

Not to mention the still unaddressed matter of him sitting out a year for health reasons.
Could be a completely healed issue or something chronic. We just don't know, so until that questions answered we don't really have a clue what we're getting. We do know he did not play a minute last year, so regardless of his health, he'll be rusty and need the proverbial "time to get into game shape", .
