Barely top fifty market.
At most ten or eleven games (with at best four-five nationally televised).
The main tenant without rights to sell the naming rights.
Stadium already renamed to the annual bowl game.
There is NO WAY the Liberty Bowl could get a corporate sponsorship naming rights deal for business purposes for a million a year.
The University of Memphis in theory could get a naming rights deal for sentimental reasons as a way give a donation (like the Laurie-Walton practice facility) but the City owns the Liberty Bowl and may not agree to do that for the U of M. Of course no one is donating money to the City for naming rights to the building.
Maybe. Maybe not. Did you bother reading the story in the link?
Why do you think nobody would pay the city for the naming rights? Somebody would. It's just a matter of how much.
I looked at it before I posted. None of the examples seemed to involve a non-Power 5 playing in a city owned stadium.
BTW, it seems like you think we can get a deal like we got for FedEx Park. That’s not likely until a new football stadium is built. As long as the Liberty Bowl is city owned, can’t see a deal working out for naming rights.
The city of Orlando sold the naming rights to their stadium formerly known as the Citrus Bowl.
Just saying.
So when the Liberty Bowl game sells the naming rights and denies the University and the City any of the revenue, how is that going to go over?
The LB bowl game doesn’t have the right to sell the naming rights. Maybe the city of Memphis will trade them that right in exchange for paying $20 Million for stadium upgrades...like the city of Orlando did.

You can't make the same call to Graf every time the city or the school needs money. Where is International Paper's money? Servicemaster? Any of their spinoff companies? Autozone? The Redbirds got some of their money, give the city some more. Raymond James? The city is headquarters for several fortune 500 companies and several more have large operations here. You can't call Graf when you need a check. It is time for others to step up and help out.

Let me just point out, you brought up Orlando as if it were a template.
I don’t think the Liberty Bowl can get a naming rights deal that would average a million a year for economic reasons. The reason it would, sponsorship of U of Memphis, is unlikely because the city (and the Liberty Bowl game) probably would not be alright with UM getting all the proceeds of a naming rights deal.
Naming rights are unlikely for the Liberty Bowl unless the AAFL became super popular for what it is, and the city finds a local company that just has money to burn on something. But it still probably wouldn’t average a million.
Would the City be willing to change the name of the stadium for a deal closer to $250,000 a year? I personally hope not.

as someone mentioned, It's All Good Liberty Bowl would be sweet...
Statue of Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium would be nice. Go after the federal government for the money. If they say no blame some type of social injustice on their decision and force them to pay for it. Seems to be working everywhere else in the country.

Exactly what I was going to post. Give FedEx and even AutoZone a pass on this one. It's time for IP and ServiceMaster to step up in the community.

A corporation would step-up. It's a combination of corporate-civic effort and marketing. Would be easier for the university to accomplish, but the city could too.

Good. Now maybe we can get improvements there without the state putting its nose in Memphis business motivated by racism.

$1 Million per year might be optimistic, but I bet the city could get a lot more than $250K per year. I guess we'll see what happens. Personally, I hope they don't sell naming rights.

The same argument could be used for Servicemaster, Terminix, Merry Maid, Truegreen, Thomas and Betts, IP, First Tennessee and on and on. Those companies could benefit from the advertising. Never said it was a donation but for Fedex to be counted on for most everything while other companies sit on the sidelines is wrong. Next time someone has the chance to see Fred or Graf, ask them how it makes their blood pressure rise when they see area based companies filling up a UPS truck with packages the Memphis companies are shipping out. While they can't control how someone ships them a package, they certainly have a choice on how they ship it and to use the competition in Memphis is crazy. Years ago a very large Memphis based auto parts retailer was the LARGEST shipper the competition had in their entire network. Once it was pointed out during a shareholder meeting that the founder of that very auto parts retailer was on the Fedex board of directors, the business then shifted to Fedex. Fedex and Fred has done plenty and will continue to do so, such as the new golf tournament next year. You just can't call 1800GOFEDEX every time the city or the school needs money. Let those UPS trucks drive around empty all day with no freight that area shippers gave them and you might see a bigger commitment. You just never know.

The ones you quoted do have Marketing benefits...
The Liberty bowl marketing return would be minimal and would be considered more of a donation than an investment.
