All very true. This team needs a sharpshooter (or two) from the outside if the team is to take the next step.

Hopefully, help in that department is on the way from the Great White North in a 6 foot frame... https://www.hudl.com/video/3/6773388/572...5540ace2f2

I was really impressed by the driving and the passing in the highlight clip (and yes, I understand it was a highlight package and it was designed to make her look good).

Agree. You have to take these highlight films with a grain of salt. Often, for instance, the competition levels are pretty weak. Having said that, she has excellent court awareness, good length, and most important she proves in the video that she has good range and release. Her length will allow her to shoot over a lot of perimeter defenders, though she exhibits a desire to not just be an outside presence as she can put the ball on the floor and take it all the way to the glass or pull up for a mid-range jumper. Look forward to seeing her the next 4 years.

I am curious to see if she plays on any of Canada's national teams at FIBA tournaments over the summer.

I can't wait to hear how badly opposing CAA announcers manage to mangle "Marcizewski". Heck, most of them couldn't even manage "Felgemacher" most of the time! LOL

Nice to see a local player recruited. Hopefully Coach O can now snag a player or two off of the top 100 lists for 2019 (JMU didn't in his first two years as HC).

It was to KB's credit that he was able to recruit at that level while at JMU...and the players he did recruit that warranted evaluations at the 91+ score were the players that eventual led JMU to its greatest recent successes.

Hopefully the new arena plus full cost of attendance stipend will see JMU have a shot at some of the very best of the best recruits.

I saw her play several times both before and after her injury and I think she will be a great addition to the Dukes. Great academically as well.

Are you aware that Coach O did a lot of the recruiting for Kenny? I didn't know that until recently myself, but yeah....it's true, and that's one reason why he was hired over other people they interviewed for the position.

What I'm curious about is why this kid signed so late. Was she hoping to go somewhere else and it fell through, was she just not being recruited, or what? I mean, it's the middle of May and she's just now signing with the local university.....?

Oh, and get realistic....I love JMU, but it IS a mid-major. Not likely to get many top 25 or even top 50s. Maybe a top 100 if the cards are right and/or she's local. Coach O did extremely well to get Marciszewski, the Canadian who's coming next year. She's like #2 in Canada or Quebec or something. That's a BFD.

Re-read my post. I wrote "top 100" players"...and many of the players JMU has celebrated (and sent to the WNBA) were exactly that. And the entire concept of "mid-major" is BS. Outside of UConn and the very best of the P5 there's not a WBB program that JMU shouldn't be able to recruit against once the new arena is in play. The conference is important, but the entire university plays a part in the recruitment of women athletes, and JMU is building its way into a very impressive environment.

Kelly Koshuta was #36/#38 in the nation coming out of High School and played one year at Virginia Tech before transferring to JMU.

She was initially recruited by Va Tech and went there. I have a sneaking suspicion Kenny steered her our way. And most likely because she somehow wasn't making the grade or fitting into the program at Tech. HS rankings aren't always reliable, in case you didn't know that.

~SMDH~ You really don't have a very realistic concept of what goes into recruiting, do you? Do you REALLY think the new arena is going to make that much difference? Get a grip. Nice, but no. Yes, it will be attractive. No, it will not make that much of a difference. JMU is just not a P5 school. That is a fact. We'll continue to get good women athletes as long as we have a good coaching staff, but a shiny new arena is not going to magically attract them. If that's what it takes, UConn would never get any, because Gampel is sketchy little pit. UConn gets top women athletes because UConn has an amazing coach. Period. Otherwise they are in a conference full of cupcakes and they don't have any other really good teams in major sports. They are decent academically but not great and are in a nowhere town. So your argument is falling a little flat there.

I have an excellent idea of what goes into recruiting. Question for you... were you, or have you ever been recruited as a D1 athlete? Or any level for that matter? Are you actively involved at present in the recuiting process? I was, and I come from a family of four gerations of D1 athletes, so I’m very familiar with the process. Today, it’s my honor to be regularly called on as a JMU prof to meet with recruits (and often their parental too!) and you’re wrong about facilities not making a significant difference in JMU’s recruiting profile, but the biggest factor is the personal fit and vibe a kid gets with the coaches and campus.

You’re absolutely right about UConn (regarding its academics, facilities and location) but what was their recruiting profile before the current coach took hold? My point being that UConn is not P5, and every successful program has a moment when it turned the corner.

JMU is in a position to recruit top 100 women basketball talent now, and the new arena (coupled to the continuing development of the campus) is only going to strengthen the hands of JMU coaches.

So, you can continue to think JMU is cemented into some “mid-major” box recruiting-wise, and argue that JMU’s new arena will not make a significant difference in our coaches ability to recruit a higher level of talent, but I sincerely think you’re wrong. I think our coaches would tell you you’re wrong too, but the proof will be known soon enough.

I am not, nor was I ever, a D1 athlete, simply because I was pre-Title IX and there were NO girls' sports in my high school. NONE. I would have run track and cross country, had there been, and while I don't know whether or where I might have been recruited, I was a pretty darn good runner in my day until I trashed my ankle. My brother was captain of the soccer team at an Ivy League school and could have been recruited somewhere else, but he chose to go there for academic reasons and sports were simply secondary on his list. My dad was a departmental chairman at a major P5 school and a member of the Athletic Board for some time (also the Disciplinary Board for awhile, but that's another story). That school has a rather famous athletic physical plant, so yes, I do know what I'm talking about. You might want to hold your fire just a bit.

My initial question was, why did Casey Irvine sign so late in the process? Can someone shed a light on that?

For whatever it's worth, pretty sure she's a recruited walk on. No scholarship money.

For whatever it's worth, pretty sure she's a recruited walk on. No scholarship money.

Don't know anything about her. How good is she supposed to be?

She had a some serious interest in her during her sophomore year, a number of Patriot League teams were talking to her. Other teams were watching her waiting to see how she developed her junior year. Then early in her junior year she blew out her ACL and missed the rest of the season. Her stock dropped and so did the scholarship interest. A lot of teams were interested in her as a walk-on, but apparently felt it was too risky to make an offer. She has decent size and may pay dividends for JMU and herself if she continues to improve.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to know in the first place. Probably why she didn't end up in a P5 and may turn out to be a real blessing for the Dukes if her knees prove to be sound!

Speaking of which, does anyone know the state of Ferguson's knee? I'm assuming they'll ask for a medical redshirt for her for the 17-18 season, since she didn't play at all.
