Track and Field qualifiers
The NCAA announced the participants in the NCAA west regional track and field championships today (which is May 24-26 in Sacramento). For the women, Hannah Jackson is the #14 qualifier in the 200, and Michelle Fokam will be competing in both the LJ (she ranks 8th) and TJ (6th). Jackson did not choose to run the 100 - she would have qualified to run it if they wanted to.

On the men's side, we have a bit more qualifiers although most are long shots to advance to the NCAA Championships. Matthew Murray is ranked 39th in the 1500, Uche Ugwunze is 46th in the shot put and 41st in the hammer. Austin Riddle is 46th in the discus and 10th in the hammer, and Erik Maher is 28th in the javelin.

Scott Filip has already qualified for the NCAA's - he ranks 8th in the decathlon.

What place do the ladies need in order to advance?

I think top 12 in most events at the west (and east) regional meets advance to the finals in Eugene? It might be more in some of the distance events?

12 will advance. Austin Riddle is not a "long shot" in the Hammer Throw. Let's hope that Uche Ugwunze has a "long shot" in one of his events ...

Twelve advancing from each "regional" event is correct.

According to the NCAA's "Road to the Championships" website:

Quote:Twelve competitors from each individual event and twelve teams from each relay event advance from each Preliminary Round site.

The "Preliminary Round" events are the May 24-26 meets in Tampa and Sacramento.

One other qualifier I forgot earlier - Charlie Card-Childers is also in the men's javelin.
