RE: Tennis 2018 - both teams
OSU's review:

Bucks steamroll the Bucs

ETSU's version:

Bucks steamroll Bucs, version 2

Frazier Rengifo, who has been injured, returned for his first match in a while, playing #5, replacing the erratic but improving Miguel Este, who had been playing #6. But obviously none of that mattered. OSU is just that good this year. I think they may have a shot at winning the whole thing, but it's soooo hard for a northern school to win it.
It should be noted that the 6-4, 6-3 loss by Herrerra at #1 to Torpegaard is a rather decent showing.

I believe this is our most lopsided loss in the NCAAs in a while. Maybe ever. Even when they beat us 4-0 in '12, we won a set or two; it was at least *semi*-competitive. In my memory, this is our worst showing in the NCAAs - which again matches up with my assertion that this was a slightly down year for ETSU tennis.

And no, to confirm what I posted earlier, ETSU has no players invited to the singles competitions - from either team.

FWIW.....the Buckeyes took down Kentucky the next day, also 4-0, altho they lost a couple of sets, and were likely going to lose another (at least). UK had beaten Va. Tech in the opening round 4-0, in the 2/3 seeds match.

I expect ETSU(M) and Furman(W) to both get 4 seeds in the regional. Would be pleasantly surprised to be wrong.

Vines on her year and the future

[And yes, I know, I still haven't gone back and done what I said I would about placing this year's men's team in historical context. I still plan on doing that.]

Oh, and I meant to follow this up, too. Ohio St. ended up losing to Wake, 4-2 in the national finals, knocking off #2 UCLA in the semis, and #6 Miss St. in the quarters. So yeah, they were as good as advertised and I stated. ETSU just has to get better and try and secure a regional 3 seed instead of getting stuck with those 4s.
