1968 - The Norfolk City Council authorizes a study of the feasibility of building a stadium to replace Foreman Field in the mid-1970s. The city leases the 26,000-seat stadium from Old Dominion College on a 25-year lease that expires in 1974. Most expect the lease not to be renewed, and Foreman Field likely to be torn down for ODC campus expansion. Last month, Norfolk Mayor Roy B. Martin Jr. disclosed that the city had selected a tentative stadium site between Military Highway and Interstate 64 north of Northampton Boulevard.

More or less where Met Park was built it sounds like. Honestly, this idea probably turned into Met Park.

That's exactly where it sounds like. Maybe ODU decided not to tear it down (obviously) and the City decided to put the ball field there. Met Park was built in 1969 so the timeline adds up.

The plan was to have both there. Baseball field and a football field with enough room to expand both and also have plenty of room for parking.

At 6'4, I'm very happy to know they're making them even bigger than the seats at the Ted (where I have my knees jammed into the back of the seat in front of me).

Someone I consider a good source mentioned Thompson's water seal.

It's not easy when you're a mid major. You will be happy just to have new construction.

Approximately 5,500 seats. Wonder if that's more or about the same number of padded priority seats we have now? Would be nice if that number represents an expansion.

More elbow room??? Look at the people in the seat backs. Look at the row where Ballard is sitting, their elbows are overlapping lol.

Try again.

SB, you are certainly right on this one. I don't normally weigh in on this sort of discussion, preferring to just see what others have to say. However, in this case, I think those seats with the arm rests would be a mistake, and I hope someone shares that concern with the administration. My concern is that there will be a significant number of folks who normally would purchase priority seats who will pass and get the best available bleacher seats, pushing the lower level donors further toward the endzone. This is football, not the opera. We don't need seats with arm rests packed in that close to each other.

+1

I think it is continued stupidity to spend more money on things that reduce capacity and encourage calm and quiet. We need fans and noise with elbows up, not resting like they are in a home theater. Elbow rests will do nothing good for our potential as a program.

The world is moving towards comfort and amenities. Look at the latest movie theatre renovations or new builds. The reality is that you’re fighting a war against my comfy sofa and 65 inch tv in my den. If the experience is knees in my back and uncomfortable seating and poor concession choices, people’s dens will c9ntinue to win.

RE: NEW stadium construction
We went to ODU’s game against ECU and bought tickets online. Our seats were chair-backed and I think they are identical to the seats we’re getting. They were exceptionally nice seats...in ECU’s section. We went crazy when ODU took the lead in the second quarter, and I thought the ECU fans were going to attack us.

I’m disappointed the chair-backed seated are being limited. Although the majority of ECU’s stadium also does not have chairbacked seats.

Yah I sat in those myself. On the 50 in heart of ecu section [friends step dad is dean of medicine at ecu] and we got on the jumbo several times and espn until the camera guy made us sit down as he panned. He wasn't pleased. But yes it was good seating.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

That game was a lot of fun04-cheers Easy/scenic drive that I hope many of our faithful make this coming year. And I can only imagine the ECU fans who are going to show up when we play them in Norfolk. Going to be a great environment. Probably going to rival the VT game this year.
