A question by our very own "7" got answered about a hypothetical NIU running the table in 2018 and what it would take for a mid major to get in.


Obviously unlikely and "we" shouldn't look past Iowa but it's fun to speculate.

When you have an OOC schedule like this year’s for NIU, you’ll have a chance for a national championship if undefeated. Perfect scheduling.

...and Northwestern + U of Illinois fans can watch us lose another Orange Bowl, with jealousy, since their own teams usually get squat post season fun.

Maybe. But this schedule would be the difference from those teams in the past. 2012-2014, NIU had damn near the weakest schedules in the country. I.e. they were over valued. There's maybe 1 quality win over those 3 years. You'd have 3, maybe 4 in this schedule alone. It won't happen, but if it did, you'd know this team is truly worthy of a good bowl. Unlike the past ones.

We're not the SEC, but never heard it spewed out as concrete scientific fact.

Some years we're certainly equal to or ahead of the Sun Belt, Conference USA, at the very least...

Some years we're certainly equal to or ahead of the Sun Belt, Conference USA, at the very least...

Out of 12 teams, only 5 of the MAC football teams had a winning record last season . Also you can blame these guys for our lack of respect :Bowling Green only won 2 games. Ball State won 0 games, Kent State won 1 , Eastern Michigan won 3. Our bottom feeders really drag us down as a conference. Also we get rocked in Bowl games. Remember when Bowling Green was good? Hopefully the incoming talent can boost the profile of our league......

Yea, the MAC is bad. Thats why I feel like each year to get any type of respect we need to at least go 2-2 in our non-conf. When we consistently have 3-4 teams in the bottom 10 ranking each week it is really pathetic.

Plus, the MAC has difficulty beating teams in bowl games, including the Sun Belt. The MAC is pathetically scraping the bottom of the barrel.

So, in summary, you have several conference teams at or near the bottom of the rankings, difficulty in winning bowl games, and miserably low attendance due to an extremely apathetic or even non-existent fan base, which is exacerbated by the November midweek night games. There is nothing good about the conference.

Bus costs < Plane costs...that's where the good ends for NIU in the MAC...unfortunately
