It seems like forever since UC was good in football.

Depending on your definition of "good", it was the 2014 season were we finished 9-4 and won a share of the American (pre CCG). Others will say that was not a good team (and will also dismiss the 2013 team that finished 9-4) taking us back to the 2012 Belk Bowl team who went 10-3.

The 2015 really should have been much better than their stated record of 7-6. That was the team that had a pre-issue Gunner, Mike Boone/Tion Green and all those wide receivers. Coaching really doomed that team IMHO. They beat a ranked Miami Hurricanes team here at Nippert, but things went down hill drastically after Tubs quit at BYU. After that happened the team packed it in as well, and we started getting schlacked by teams as we have done the past couple years.

Great analysis of the decline and fall. That night @ Nippert against the Hurricanes was pretty special. And that collapse @ BYU demonstrated just how loose the wheels were on Tub's machine. And of course it only got worse after that.

Is #108 realistic or just the lack of visibility of the program in recent years creating enough apathy and ignorance nationally that the "experts" neither care or know? Perhaps the latter.

I expect this team to perform above that ranking and contend for a bowl bid.

I should have emphasized "it seems".

I agree with your analysis. I think my vision is clouded by some of the beat downs I have witnessed the last few seasons.

Pre season rankings... Pfffffffft.

Last year Florida St. was what, preseason top five? QB gets injured in the first game. Season went south on them real quick.

Quiz time! Who was our QB against that ranked Miami team in 2015? There is hope.

If this team doesn't exceed that #108 ranking, the fanbase is going to get pretty frustrated with Fickell, right or wrong.

They'll need to play well to beat OU and Miami this year, as those guys are going to give UC their best.

Well, the point actually was that pre season rankings are not always accurate and that it's OK to be optimistic about our season.

But thank you sir for dutifully showing up and busting my chops for it anyway.

So based on the ranking I see 4-8 or 7-5 (considering home field advantage)

I think that's the range.

Again, the Pirates. SMDH. So much for their big stadium of screaming fans. For our Cats - no pressure and low expectations. We got 'em right where we want 'em!

From a talent standpoint, we are closer to Navy/Temple than UConn.

True. Maybe they will be like Temple basketball this year where they looked like an NCAA Tournament lock in the non-conference then completely collapsed in league play.

The BYU game really was the beginning of the end. Had a great trip. Provo and Salt Lake City offer beautiful views. The drive down from Park City was exhilarating. And Tubs did quit. And the players and the fans knew it. Never been the same since.

As for predictions, I'll stick with a couple coaches who have expressed privately that 6-6 and a bowl game would be an outstanding year. ugh
