RE: Mondo Track Surface
The new track facility certainly seems to have been extremely important to Ingram. I would be very disappointed if the surface chosen was an obvious fail and that information was in the public domain. Lets hope the manufacturer has fixed the problems.

Who says the manufacturer was responsible for the problems. The link simply says a law suit was filed.

No mention of how this lawsuit turned out in the link by the mysterious Sacremento State poster who seemed to pop up out of nowhere. The article indicates that the company blamed the university maintenance staff for the problem.

RE: Mondo Track Surface
In all seriousness, a quick google search shows that there are a decent number of universities who use it, and this product has the same top layer as their older product which is in use hundreds of places. Look forward to seeing the color scheme we go with.

+1

The city also seems to disagree with the university:

Quote:Sacramento State representatives reached by The Bee would not say whether the university has lost any contracts for track meets because of the allegedly deteriorating surface. Mike Sophia, director of the Sacramento Sports Commission, said the university hasn’t lost any contracts.

“The track is in great shape from a performance standpoint,” he said. “From Sac State’s perspective they purchased a finely engineered automobile and it wasn’t what they paid for. I understand that.”

He said the green on the track changed over the months. “If you didn’t know what color green they intended to purchase and what color it was when it first went down … you probably won’t realize what is wrong.”

A Greentrack is a bad idea in Alabama anyway. 03-wink

Joking aside - I would pick a more traditional track surface color - something proven as colorfast and non-visually offensive.

I like the P58 gold and the P10 green that is listed on the Mondo site as being options for color of track surface.

RE: Mondo Track Surface
Ingram noted that this will be the first time in the track and field program's 33 years that it will have a world-class track for practice and competition. The new venue will be the home for UAB's women's track and field team, and it will enable UAB to host intercollegiate meets, as well as conference and high school events. The university also plans to make it available for use by UAB students, staff and faculty and Birmingham residents.

He wins my vote. I was ticked when Callaway closed to old track to public use.

RE: Mondo Track Surface
Was the BOT afraid of not allowing the track to be up to snuff enough to hold world class events?

Perhaps it is a read on the present BOT that today they allow a competition size / quality track facility while years ago the former BOT held up allowing the Student Rec Center until assured the swimming pool would be too small for competitive swimming events. We can hope that a new "team" is now in the UA System "game".

Totally agree with BBF.
