In my opinion as I stated a long time ago he is to small and does not tackle well at all and is poor in sustained coverage

I will be shocked if he lands anyplace

not the best teammate at times or so I have been told

RE: Shawun Lurry
Unlike Randy, I have no inside info, yet my opinion as a fan who is at or watches every game, I come away with the same assessment.

His Pick 6 against Nebraska was one of the greatest plays I've seen a Huskie make and set the tone for the game as Nebraska was about to score to take an early lead.

His most recent comments that he would have been so much better off had he been able to do what JJ did in transferring confirm his self-centeredness to me. As if his size, tackling and overall attitude would have somehow improved at another D1 school.

Appreciate what he did here and wish him the best, but I hope for his sake he has a Plan B just in case.

I’m still in shock that nobody is even bringing him in on a tryout basis.... I get that he’s small, but the tape doesn’t lie. He played best against our toughest competition and he did lead the nation in interceptions in his breakout season. What hurt his stock has to be something non- Football related. That rumor of him quitting on the team before the Duke bowl game must of scared teams away.He was more durable than Chad Beebe, and Wiman combined. Lol

Small and did have nagging injuries throughout his career. would be my guess.

The statements on anything about being poor in any type of coverage are ludicrous. One of the best at NIU's level that we've seen. Don't change your opinion on the skillset based on your opinion of his attitude.

I couldn't disagree with you more. He was constantly getting beat and missing tackles. If he wasn't getting interceptions he was letting receivers get big gains. People thought he was better than he was because of his games against OSU and Nebraska.

Clearly Lurry made some huge plays for the Huskies, but on the other hand I never felt like "Oh, crap, Lurry's out" when he wasn't on the field. By comparison, I definitely felt that way when Pugh got hurt last year, and I'd probably go into mourning if Smith went down. However, I do think if Lurry was a better all around player (tackling especially) he'd be getting a look. There are guys about his size at DB in the NFL--not many, but some.

Also, if you are going to be 5'8 160 you better have 4.3 or 4.4 speed at the minimum. If I recall correctly, I think he ran a 4.58 at his pro day. This would give him below average speed for his position.

NFL = Size

Lurry turned that Nebraska game into "Hey, we're going to kick your A$$ now"

I can seriously watch that play over and over again. One of the best heads up plays in huskie history, on a big stage at that. I watched the clip of JJ’s TD just a second ago against Nebraska. How big of a homer was Les Miles that game? Woooof he was awful. JJ just scored NIU’s SECOND defensive TD and all he could do is talk about a Nebraska player hurt on the ground. Not like a huge play just happened Les! I hope he doesn’t announce any games this year.

The NFL has looked at his tape and was not impressed. He really never played corner like they ask you to play in the NFL. He always played off the receiver and most of his interceptions were not due to good coverage but overthrows. He does have good hands and anticipation but his man on man skills are below average.

You can disagree, you'd just be wrong. The tackling is potentially a fair critique.

Saying he was interception or bust, is wrong...the stats from the 2016/2017 year when he was healthy.

https://web1.ncaa.org/stats/StatsSrv/rankings

He had an off and on senior year for sure, injuries and probably other things.

I'm not here arguing he should have or shouldn't have been drafted, I don't know enough about what goes into that, and I agree his size probably scared a lot of people.

But he wasn't just a guy that made some big picks, people are forgetting way too much. They don't make you an all american for just some big picks.

Exactly. Most All-Americans at least get a tryout.

RE: Shawun Lurry
I wonder what his draft grade was. I saw an article on Hustle Belt that listed MAC players with their draft grades. We didn't have any that even qualified for a grade this year. Surprising that Lurry was not even graded. Hopefully he gets a tryout or catches on in Canada or one of the new leagues. He had great instinct but there was a lot of risk v reward with his decisions.

Let’s Go Shawun! Prove your doubters wrong.... Story of his life. A last minute add on to NIU’s recruiting class years ago. Now a last second tryout with the Steelers...
