Glad to hear 19 is doing this. For the long ago TV home of the Bearcats they show a lot of love for that team across town these days. Of course other local media do too.
Fox 19 sports director Joe Dannerman’s family are big Xavier fans. His dad and mom have season tickets for years. His uncle went to X. So don’t look for to much love.
LOL i love that I'm just learning this. It was so obvious on twitter where his bias lied. And I wouldn't really have a huge problem with except he pretended to be unbiased. It would be ridiculous to expect the guy to be unbiased given that background.

It's an ongoing issue with some in local media who have become infatuated with X, mostly because they've made a bigger splash in the postseason during the Mack years. I expect we should prepare for a heavy dose of "feature" stories on Mack at Louisville this coming season, as if anyone other than a small number of U of L alumni in this area cares.

Love everything about the new arena besides the fact that despite an $88M renovation, the AD decided to still be one of the very few major college basketball arenas that has been updated to not put chairbacks throughout the entire stadium.
It looks like the indoor roof overhang is still present. Does that mean you'll still experience 'tunnel vision' if you're sitting in the top row and looking down onto the court?

I don't really mind the bleachers to be honest. They reduced the number of them and it gives the people the option of getting a lower value ($100ish) seat while still offering seatbacks as well. There are a lot of casual UC fans that have a barrier getting over that $100/seat point.

I agree. It's good that they are providing seating to accommodate various price options. If the bleachers have seat backs that is a plus.

Count me among those disappointed to see bleachers. On the whole, this renovation is a home run. And maybe the concrete risers up there were simply too shallow to accommodate a full sized seat. But I've always believed the bleachers were one of the biggest reasons UC didn't have more sellouts, both in terms of comfort and the "tunnel view" someone described earlier in this thread. Hopefully, there are far fewer bleachers than before.

Please keep in mind that these renovations had nothing to do with what the poor schmuck in the top row thinks.

I guess we'll see who moves the needle.
I believe we already saw who moves the needle. TV numbers for UC v Wichita / UC conf trny games blew away the BE numbers locally. More people care about UC locally. Some in the media have their favorites and try to set the narrative. Bias is not just taking a negative slant towards a team/university, it is also non coverage where there should be coverage.
Arena looks great so far. Cannot wait to see the completed version. I am fine with some seats not being chair backs. This might be the reason the capacity is closer to 13k than 10k. Also, as stated above, we do need some seats to be economical. Frankly, I am not as concerned about the ceiling. The top 5 rows of any arena are lesser quality.

I was under the impression that there were always going to be bleachers. I don't recall them saying that every seat would be a chairback.
The seats that struggled to sell out were the corners, in which you had to look through the rafters to see the court. If they put a good team on the court, they'll have no problem selling out.
Those top seats used to sell to rival fans from UL and Memphis in CUSA. Do any rivals fans attend games anymore? I ask because I gave up my center seats. Thought about coming back but I need to be in FL Jan-Apr to get 4 of my 5 months out of OH to avoid OH taxes.

Wichita State will travel next year, that will be about it.

Considering our nearest rival is Memphis at 6 hours, not so much.

Memphis fans travel well. But if the AAC schedules it as a weeknight game in January, forget about it.
I was impressed by the turnout of Iowa State fans when the Cyclones visited two years ago. Of course that was an excellent team, but they've had a big following for years in football and basketball. I'm convinced that continuing to grow attendance and the season ticket base will be a necessary step for UC to stay ahead of the pack in the G5.
